Hi Everyone,

I have 94 Grand Prix SE. The inner tie rod needs to be replaced. I took out the outer tie rod. I got all the special tools to take out the inner tie rod, however, none of them does not fit on inner tie rod. I need an advise. Does inner tie rod on the vehicle come out or rack and pinnion needs to be replaced? I would appriciate any suggestions.

Thank you

Thank you Crazy K.

I tried 27024 but did not know the 27042. The inner tie rod does not have a hex on it. If I grab the outer part of the inner tie rod, where it joins the rack and pinion, it turns on it self. I hope that 27042 can hold and take it off.

Thank you again.

There is a protective plastic cover over the inner tie rod that needs to be ripped off first. From there a good tool can get on the slats and youll want some serious force to turn it and that will also 'flatten' out the dimples that lock it into place.

All it all, not too bad to replace once you know what exactly your looking at, and how to address it.

ah! I forgot about that stupid plastic cover. Put one of 'em on backwards when I was doing inner tie rods a few weeks ago....realizing what I did and that it had to come apart again was fun

Thank for all the advise guys.

I was able to take it off, and put it back the new one and the remaining parts. Now my question is If I put the new one off from where the old one is Is it possible to balance it without removing and readjusting the outer tie rod? The vehicle pulls right.

Thanks,

You don't remove the outer to adjust the toe angle. It gets adjusted with the suspension loaded (front wheels sitting on alignment plates) and you loosen the jam nut, and turn the inner tie rod (it also has flats on the sides to grab with a wrench) to adjust the toe.

Your best bet is to take it to an alignment shop.

adjustment is mandatory.

I have done this procedure an used a tape measure and a friend to good results. You simply need the tires to be parallel

The tape measure/string got my car tracking straighter than any alignment shop ever has.
