mchill07 Posted March 2, 2012 Report Posted March 2, 2012 I recently had to replace the starter on my 93 CS and the new starter did not come with any shims. There were not any shims on the old one either. The guy at auto-zone said if there were not any shims, I wouldn't need them. After I got it in... it screeches loudly after the engine starts. Also when I rev the eng, It wll screech. I assume it needs shims but how many? Quote
Crazy K Posted March 2, 2012 Report Posted March 2, 2012 You can buy the shims at the parts store. i think the Help brand stuff carries them. start with one. I also will apply grease to the starter gear prior to installation to minimize damage if the clearance is incorrect. Quote
Schurkey Posted March 2, 2012 Report Posted March 2, 2012 Seems to me both my '92 and '93 had ONE thick shim on the starter. Quote
mchill07 Posted March 3, 2012 Author Report Posted March 3, 2012 Starter fine after three and 1/2 shims. Quote
