Cougnut
Hey guys, Ran into some more trouble with my DD (91 z34). At first I had a small minor power steering leak, and I threw in some Lucas power steering stop leak, and it seemed to take care of the problem. After a few months, I finally put in the whole bottle and had no issues for about two weeks. All of a sudden my pump starts making a groaning noise and I threw some regular power steering fluid in. I didn't drive it and the next day I checked it, half of the reservoir is empty. When I checked it after driving it and it was groaning like no tomorrow I noticed there was a lot of bubbles in the fluid. The fluid spews out and onto my serp belt making it squeal sometimes. Is there a guide on how to replace it? I'm not really sure if it's the O-ring or not, but with some quick research I'm 94% sure that's the issue. My girl told me how bad it was the other day saying I should check my fluids cuz I left a leak all over her driveway. I told her, my car doesn't leak, I was just happy to see you. Thanks you guys, ya never let me down.
GOT2B GM
Where is it leaking from? Common issue is the high pressure hose springing a leak, requiring that hose to be replaced from the rack to the pump
94 olds vert
It sounds the like the high pressure hose to me too. I had to replace mine and those symptoms sound exactly like what I was going through. Edited January 18, 2012 by 94 olds vert
GnatGoSplat
It could be the O-ring too. I've had the problem with needing to replace the high pressure hose, but years later I had the O-ring on it go bad. The O-ring is by far the easier part to replace. Just unbolt the tube from the pump and swap the O-ring.
Schurkey
The LOW pressure hose blew off the tube down by the rack on one of mine. Leaks can come from any part of the PS system; and as long as you're in there anyway, you might as well inspect the whole works.
Cougnut
Dropped my car off at Meineke, they called me back and informed me that it was the O-ring and some other small miscellaneous part. They told me it was going to be under $70 bucks. Sweet, I went in there explaining that I thought it I needed the whole pressure hose replaced. GnatGoSplat
$70 to replace an O-ring! No wonder a good mechanic can make well into 6-figures. I think it takes all of 5-minutes.

Yes, I'ma computer technician, I don't get my hands dirty very often. It's better than them lying to me and telling me I need a new Rack n Pinion or fuel pump.
