Alright I know there's plenty of people on here who have swapped motors. I'm studying up on swapping a Supercharged Series 2 3800 into my 1995 Grand Prix. From what I've read a Lumina or Monte Carlo would be my best bet for scoring a motor.

So now I'm wondering about actually obtaining said motor. It seems the best thing to do is find a car that still runs so I can hear the motor and know it's in good shape. Basically, it seems like I'll have to buy a car for the motor and transmission and then part out/scrap whats left? My dad works at a dealership and said he could put out a bid request to a couple scrap yards for a motor and tranny, just not sure what to expect to pay for anything. Anybody want to weigh in with some knowledge here?

You wont find a supercharged 3800 in a Monte or Lumina, but you will need an NA 3800 98-99 Monte/Lumina wiring harness... BXX is the man to talk to here, also 95vert has done it too...

Buying AMPs car wouldnt be a bad idea if you can get it running right... Theres not much else to part except interior stuff which I may grab a few things from you for the next owner of my GP

There any good threads on doing a motor swap like this? Have a feeling things might be screwy since my car may or may not be obd 1.5

I will do the swap for ya, well not for free:lol:

Its actually pretty damn easy, unless somebody (not mentioning names) wants to try to make 2nd gen L67 headers fit a fuckin first gen. That requires some serious patience and a big ass hammer:mad:

You being a 95 makes this easier actually, well 96 would be easier but nonetheless.

The harness must be a 98/99 Lumina/MC L36. Wiring in the BBV is cake walk, and there is minor rewiring that needs done from the C100 connector to the passenger side underhood fuse block. Inside, its just running the new Class 2 wire on Pin J2 to the new DLC, and adding 12v+ switched to the DLC from the fuse block (tap into the HVAC wire, its high power and switched) Then just tie in the existing UART (tan wire) and ground wires at the DLC.

Engine and trans, get as a whole, try to aim for a 98-02 IIRC, sensors and all!!!. Best bet is to use a 98 GTP PCM, try to avoid a N/A PCM just for the sake of sanity as far as getting the base tune dialed in since the N/A PCM needs scaling done to its file so it 'sees' boost. IIRC a 98/99GTP PCM shouldnt need any repinning at the PCM, but if it does, its very minor.

Aside from wiring, its bolt in engine trans assy. Install new exhaust from manifold back. Stock L67 intake can be used. Use shift cable and throttle cable from 98/99MC L36. All sensors, brackets and shit should be from the L67 dropout. Axles are simple. I used the inner stubs off the 4T65e-HD, then added on the rest of stock axles. Quick clamp kits from the parts stores work good. Buy extra grease, you'll loose some and make a mess. Try to not piece together the axles with new or reman axles! More often or not, the innerds are no longer the same size due to new bearing sizes and whatnot. Just use OE/Junkyard stuff. Not exactly common for our axles to fail anyway.

Radiator hoses need to be from the 98/99 Lumi/MC. Recommend installing a LQ1 radiator and LX5 Intrigue fan assembly. LX5 fans are bolt in, no wiring needed.

Trans lines, just get new ones from the dealer for the 98/99 Lumi/MC. 3100 units wont work, but I haven't verified, but 2nd gen L67 units MAY work. Dunno for sure:lol:

Fuel lines are simple actually. A few ways can be done. Easiest is to cut the stock nylon hoses off at the lines at the driver side frame rail. Use high pressure fuel hose, clamp on to the stock steel lines, then run them to the quick disconnect fittings for the L67. Just cut to barbed quick disconnects off the L67s nylon lines. Clamp the bejesus out of it (I used 2 at each end on each hose IIRC)

Recommend installing Walbro fuel pump.

Heater core hoses, use 98/99 Lumi/MC.

I think I covered most of it. If not, ask away.
