Finished radiator install but the fans turn on and check engine light *update, FIXED*

So I finished doing the full install, did the ECT and connector, plenum gasket, replaced all the brittle vaccuum and emissions hoses, all the heater bypass hoses and serpentine belt. I filled the radiator using my new Lisle Spill Free funnel kit and man was it the best tool I spent money on. I turned on the car and no leaks, water or air but the check engine light came on and both fans are running all the time. Should I replace the original pigtail? could it be that the connector that hook up to the sensor not contacting?

this would be a good sign that the computer is not getting input from the ECT. either it is not properly connected, or the sensor is bad....

Now that you mention it, the connector had a terminal that I pushed in cause it would not let it slid into the sensor. Must have pushed it in to much and is it not contacting properly. Trying again tomorrow and will post update. Good thing I save that old connector that I can still splice in, just cut the part with the wire break, that is if I need it.

Just finished. Had to use a safety pin to fix the terminal on the ECT, all finished and fans turn on as they should. I also used my Lisle Spill Free funnel kit to fill the radiator and man did it make the job easy. Waited for the T-stat to open and added more coolant to top it off while the heater was on full blast. Car idles way beter now that all the old vacuum hoses have been replaced.

Those spill free funnels are the best $25 a guy could spend. Aboot every professional tech has that in their arsenal for good reason:thumbsup:

I don't think the last shop I took my car to get the LIM done had this kit cause they did not take the air out while filling up the coolant. I noticed this cause what I drained was not the amount it listed on my manual needed to have a full system. They also tried unsuccesfully to get the fans to come on and could not, they always mentioned a bad ECT or wiring but wanted an extra $500 to get it all done. That is what I get for being lazy and not doing my own work. I have been driving it for a 3 days now on long and short trips with no hiccups. The only problem was the heater hose by the water pump, I cut the factory crimped clamp and put in a new hose and again used my funnel to fill it. Still purring. Hope it lasts me a couple years more. Next is swapping the alternator out since I have not changed it since '05 and it is long overdue.
