Will try, my dad is pretty sure it is a the timing chain slapping.

I highly doubt it. It sounds like a spun bearing or maaaybe a cracked flex plate. My GP sounded very similar when it shat a rod bearing.

I've never seen a broken timing chain on a 3800. Drain the oil. If its full of metal shavings or looks like glitter, start looking for a new engine.

well if that is the case i not going to worry about it couse the body of the car is not that great i got it thinking i could do so body work and it would be a nice car.

I am just going to fix my 98 lumina and drive it for now and fix the GTP this spring.

well tore it a parts some today the harmonic balancer is bad the rubber piece is not even connected at all and it was slipping and we bleave that was what was making the ticking noise cause the metal in there was hitting. not sure getting balancer tomorrow, will report if it fixes it.

Sounds like you need to do a CASE learn, or you buggered up the crank sensor or the toner ring. Possible that the crank sensor bracket has cracked, causing the sensor to read wrong.

However an EGR issue will make the car not run right, so you might think the 'timing' is off.

Thermostat sticking open, it won't warm up and will continue to stay cold and run rich.

How smoothly does it start, does it seem to start normal and then just die? Or does it struggle to start

it has always started easy no problem with that, i can have my foot on the gas and it will still just die.
