Starting radiator replacement...

And will be replacing the below. Anything else you guys think I will need to replace. I want to make sure all bases are covered while it is apart. Car has 145k miles and has always had regular maintenance and that includes the timing belt (installed at 65k and again at 123k).

Parts that will be replaced:

Radiator and hoses/clamps

coolant (Just got the Lisle spill free funnel)

ECT and pigtail (I think there is a break on the current as the insulation is coming off)

update bleeders cause the screws were broke off from being overtightened

plenum gasket and o-ring in between plenum and LIM (Lower intake manifold)

coolant hose for throttle body that is in between plenum and LIM

Serpentine belt

Thermostat

Thanks.

Sounds like a pretty comprehensive list. I remember having not replaced anything when I replaced my radiator. I did have to remove the fans, but that's about it.

You shouldn't need to replace the clamps. Just re-use the spring-type clamps. When I had my Regal's engine swap, Bob replaced all of my spring clamps with screw-type hose clamps, and a few of them have loosened up on me and needed to be re-tightened. The spring type clamps are better able to flex as temperatures increase and decrease, while keeping the same amount of pressure.

That being said, if you do replace them anyway, send me your old ones. :)

What car is this for?

Assuming first gen W-Body:

On the top of the fan bracket, round out the sharp corners of the plastic by the bolt. I dont know why they made this part so sharp. This was always a pain in my ass when working in the engine bay of my car and rounding these out was a vast improvement

I might get a new coolant level sensor. They fail pretty regularly. I think I got one from the dealer for a pretty reasonable price (cheaper than all the stuff aftermarket online)

I dont know anything about 2nd Gen W-bodies

Sorry it is for my 1995 MC Z34 LQ1 so I think generation 1.5. Coolant level sensor is recent so I will keep that one.

Test/replace the radiator cap.

THOROUGHLY clean the overflow bottle. (I add a pint of sand to some detergent and water, then slosh the mixture around to scrub the interior of the bottle. Be sure to get all the sand back OUT before re-installing.

How is your water pump?

You'll want to check the heater hose quick-disconnect; they're a known corrosion point.

Rad cap is new, changed it last week. Flushing the bottle tomorrow. Water pump was changed when timing belt was done about 20k miles ago, how long do they last? By the heater hose, is that the one on the lower intake manifold under the throttle body? who sells new ones?
