brake
My EGR pipe has been diagnosed as bad by the exhaust shop (all I can determine is that there is a leak pre catalyst, judging by the smell and sound) They said they could only get one from the dealer - Are they dealer only parts or can I get one on the cheap somewhere without junkyarding? brake
NM, I was able to find one online but it's about $2 cheaper than the dealer part.
xtremerevolution
I had a leak in mine a while back. I must have gone through at least 10 3800s at the junkyard before I found 2 intact ones. Sent from my HTC Awesome using Tapatalk
brake
Gotcha. Fuck junkyarding - I'll just bite the bullet and get the shop to do it. ~$200 installed and I don't need to turn any wrenches for a change.

I would GLADLY do this job for $100 including my junkyard time. We're talking about a $2-4 part at the junkyard, two bolts, and 15 minutes tops from the moment you pop your hood to the moment you close it. $200 for this job is a complete rip-off and a huge waste of money if you are at all capable of turning two nuts or bolts with a $5 set of wrenches. brake
$2 at some junkyards. Not here. Our junkyard prices are retarded - I would expect to pay $40-50 for the tube. It's roughly 10 bucks a piece for the gaskets too. The tube is $89 new. Thanks for the advice.

I went to junkyards in the middle of Chicago that charged me less than $10 per. Most of the time, they have no clue what it is. What gaskets are needed for an EGR change? Unless its vastly different from a 3800 (L27, L36, L67) EGR, it should screw right in. I looked up several pictures and could not find a single indication that a gasket would be needed. brake
It's ridiculous, but it still is. I don't live in the middle of Chicago, I live on an island on the east coat of Canada. I'm going to call around to junkyards tomorrow to see what they want for one. 3100s are fairly plentiful. Whatever price I find it for, it's still cheaper than having the garage do it. Edited December 16, 2011 by brake

I don't have to remove it... Being on an island in Canada might have a lot to do with your prices. Didn't know that, lol. brake
found it, 96-99 prettymuch. 3.4 tube is the same. gotta call the junkyard(s..we have 2) back in about 15 minutes, they're gone looking for one that isn't rotten. brake
Nobody around here has one that isn't rotten. Had to order it through the dealer at 86 bucks. Is the manifold end of the pipe the same as the valve end? is the pipe threaded into the manifold or just the bolts?
brake
replaced the pipe today finally...I want to move to wherever it takes 15 minutes to remove that nut! If I had access to oxy-fuel it probably would have been a bit quicker. Propane worked after a while, though. it's at an incredibly shitty angle to access.
