anton74
Hi guys, I have a 95 GP with 206K km (about 129K miles) on it. Many parts are new: plugs, plug wires, fuel filter, fuel pressure regulator, rebuilt starter and the alternator. The battery is two years old. The car starts OK on the mornings, but when it seats a few hours after the trip, it takes somewhat longer (few seconds) to start. The starter is turning the engine, but it seems like there no ignition or enough fuel to start. If I leave the car for a longer period, like 8-9 hours when I am at work, it starts good. Any ideas? Thanks, Anton. Edited November 20, 2011 by anton74
white4d96
I know later Grand Prix's would do that because of gunk in the throttle body and upper intake plenum. On my 3100 car I took them off and cleaned them as best I could inside with carb cleaner and it made a big difference. Worth a try as the can of cleaner and a couple gaskets will likely cost you less than ten bucks.
Leo090
I feel my 97 Chevy Lumina (80k miles) does the same thing. It would start the worst after getting home from work, then returning to my car within 1 hour. I usually raced home. My only conclusion is that the throttle or upper intake is too dirty, or maybe too wet. (Maybe too much fuel vapor) I also noticed my car start up the fastest after a fresh full tank of gas. How was it before the new battery? Same? Just be happy it starts up! Take care! Edited November 23, 2011 by Leo090
gr8shot
My 3.1 does a similar thing. Seems like when its warm its more difficult to start. Sometimes it'll fire then die. But it always restarts, sometimes I have to give it a little pedal though. Hopefully someone will chime in with an answer for us. Schurkey
Put a scan tool on 'em, find out what the coolant temperature sensor is telling the computer.

Pull the UIM, clean the runners and TB out as best you can. Replace the gasket while you're at it. It made a big difference for me.
anton74
I will try to clean the UIM and TB and scan for the codes. Could it be the leaky injector and the gas fouling the spark plug? Also, I replaced the stock oxygen sensor with the Denso unit, can it cause the problem?
