WonderMel
My 95 GP 3.1L is having some sort of electrical malfunction with the cooling fans. Ive replaced both relays and discovered that if ONLY the drivers side relay is in then the drivers side fan will turn on ONLY when the AC is turned on...as soon as I put a new relay into the passenger side the drivers side relay no longer works At All and the passenger side fan begins to work ONLY when the AC is on. What the heck is going on?? It like one side is blocking the signal to the other and either way I can only get one to work as a secondary fan...I can only get One to work at any time and then only if the AC is on so I have no primary fan that turns on when the engine heat rises. My end result is the car getting far to hot in traffic etc. Anyone have any ideas or had a similar problem????
anton74
On my car (95 GP) the drivers side (primary) fan turns on when the temperature needle is approaching the 3/4 mark (about 106 oC?); the passenger side (auxiliary) fan usually does not turn immediately after the AC is on, it take some time. As I was able to understand from different sources, this is normal. The auxiliary fan supposed to operate when the car overheats (the needle is approaching the red zone) or when the pressure inside the AC system reaches some value. As a result, the needle is always moving from 1/2 to 3/4 mark in traffic, when the AC is off. I simply wired an additional relay in parallel to the auxiliary fan relay and mounted a switch on the dash. Now I can turn on the passenger side fan in traffic and the needle is staying on less than 1/2 mark. The same could be done for the primary fan, or, even better, you can wire it to the additional thermostatic switch. But before you doing this, check your coolant temperature sensor. AWeb80
Not sure what is happening...but like what is said above, I just added in an inline witch so I can turn my fans on when I want to. BUT BE SURE TO TURN THEM OFF or your battery will die.
