TeeJay3800
Hey guys, quick question. My Cutlass has been sitting for quite a while, and surprise, my battery is dead (not stone dead, just too low to fully turn it over). I'm trying to charge it with a battery charger, but it doesn't seem to be working. I've got the clips hooked up to the positive and negative terminals, but when I plug in the charger, it just clicks, briefly makes a buzzing sound, then clicks again and the buzzing stops. This cycle is repeated every 20 seconds or so indefinitely. When the buzzing sound happens, the charge meter moves from slightly above 0 to right on 0. It does the same thing whether the switch is on manual or either automatic modes. Am I doing something incorrectly, or does it sound like the charger itself is dead? AL
Sounds like you have the terminals switched possibly
94 olds vert
I've found the ground terminal on the battery isn't the best spot to use. I find another piece of metal to connect it to so I can get a better ground. The ground is the black wire.
AL
I use a dog bone mount bolt for ground
TeeJay3800
Thanks for the responses. I'm not sure what happened, but it magically started working. All I did was turn it upside down and bump it on the workbench lightly. Both cables are still hooked up to the battery as before. Here's a pic of the three modes offered. What do they mean and which should I use for keeping the battery fully charged while the car isn't being driven? Also, in the hour it's been plugged in, the meter has actually increased from 8 to about 9 amps...is that normal? jman093
Also, in the hour it's been plugged in, the meter has actually increased from 8 to about 9 amps...is that normal? yeah, batteries will do that.
alec_b
You should be using maintenance free automatic/deep cycle. Almost all batteries now a days are "maintenance free" even if they have removable cell covers to check the water level.
