Foxchase
Hey there. I just had a question regarding a sound I hear every time I start up my 2001 Chevrolet Lumina. However, it's not right after I start up the car, release the parking brake or put it in a gear. It comes when I release the brake pad after holding it in and the car starts rolling. But ONLY right after start-up. THe car does not vibrate or anything, and the sound lasts for like 1 second. Does anyone have any idea what this could be? White93z34
Sounds like the ABS system self check.
tornado_735
Yep, it is the Anti Lock Brake system doing it's self diagnostic. My 1992 Lumina make the same noise, as did my old 1991 Oldsmobile Nintey-Eight.
Foxchase
So it's a common sound? Nothing to worry about?
tornado_735
So it's a common sound? Nothing to worry about? Shouldn't be. Only worry if the ABS light comes on and stays on.
Mel87
Yes, ABS. My previous Cutlass had a problem with this system. I would start the car up and that sound wouldn't occur until I put the car in drive and start to move. Mine now does it as soon as I start the car up. It turned out the ABS sensor module went bad. But if you are hearing it and the ABS/Parking Brake light doesn't come on, your all good.
AL
My 03 GP did this, no problems with the system
