srsheely220
well i have a problem, well for about 1 month my car had a terrible miss. i checked everything out and couldnt figure out what it was till i checked the plugs that i had just had put on there 2 months eariler. what had happened was the electrode of a ac delco rapid-fire plug had blown up and i drove the car like this for about 1 month. Well when i replaced the plug my car started to smoke really bad and has been using about 1 quart of oil about every 300-400 miles. i think that only this cylinder is burning oil and i was wondering how long do you think this engine will last its still got good power and runs good and idles smooth it just pours that blue smoke from the back btw its a 95 grand prix with a 3100 thanks scott
Robby1870
check out the Oil Pump Drive O-ring on the block under the throttle body
srsheely220
would that cause the oil to be burnt
Robby1870
No, but it will leak down the back of the block and cause a big oil loss
srsheely220
oh ok i dont think its leaking because its not leaving puddles and it's definatly burning alot of it
fast68
something probably hit the plug and did the damage to it, look at my engine for instance, it was a perfectly good running 92 3.1L and it decided to break a valve off and imbed into the piston, it ruined the head and piston for #3 its crazy.. wouldnt have had any clue it was going to happen by how the engine ran, never any problem ever before. no smoke, no oil loss, no nothing,. i wouldnt think a spark plug would just break, unless something hit it. my spark plug is broke cuz a valve head nailed it several times, took a chunk out of the head too. good luck
Robby1870
Could be a stem seal or the lower intake is leaking oil into the combustion chamber, or it could be a lot of other things, those are just the common things that came to mind. Sorry about the O-ring advice, I think I was drunk when I posted that, and didnt read it right
srsheely220
oh its coo, it just kinda sucks that my 3100 is burnin oil. Thanks for the help
PaPaPooh
what i think happened was that the electrode broke and the piston grinded it in the cylender walls so now you have messed up rings that will not seal oil out of the cumbustion chamber there for you are burning the oil hope this helps
