BRZN
With the short amount of time there's light after I get home from work and not wanting to take the chance on weekend weather being in my favor, I decided to take my newly purchased '94 Grand Prix SE in to the "Stealership" for some routine work before I turn it over to my 16 year old. I don't know how the vehicle has been maintained over its life and with the OEM hose clamps still on I figured one of the things I'd have them do is to drain and flush the coolant system, replace all the hoses and thermostat in the 3.1 and refill it with some good anti-freeze. I received a call a bit ago informing me the Intake Manifold Gasket needs replaced and is going to take 6.1 hours of labor! I've had the intake manifold on and off my '06 GTO several times and it takes about an hour to remove it and put it back on. What's the deal? Is this gasket a common problem and why would it take so long for a skilled mechanic to replace it?
95 vert
Intakes on those are somewhat of a pain. Intake is part of the head. Pushrods have to be removed to access the gaskets. Labor quote sounds about right. Too bad you didn't live closer. I could save you about half or more of the cost to do it.

BRZN
Oh, I know I could do it, and have many friends that'd be willing to help: I just don't have the time! Kinda' sucks when you put things into perspective: I go to work to make the money to pay someone else to do what I can do but don't have the time to do because I'm at work.
