Will a 3.1 out of a '90 Lumina work in a '94 Cutlass that had the 3100?

Posted

Yes and no....you might want to keep the top end off the 3100 and put it on a 3.1 Block

you cant just swap them as far as i know....

You can't use the 3.1 block unless you also use the 3.1 wiring.

The 3.1 block doesn't have the hole for the camshaft position sensor so the SFI wouldn't work.

So your saying I'll need the computer and engine bay wiring harnass?

Yes, and out of a '93, because that's the only year the 3.1L was mated to the 4T60-E... unless you plan to change the tranny too.

SHIT!!!! That figures. The tranny is going out of the Lumina but the motor is strong as hell. My uncle called me from New York and asked if I knew anyone that needed a good motor for $300. That includes the rest of the car which is in very good shape. I told him I might want the motor. He said for me it was free. Why am I having such shitty luck lately?

HEY JOE YOU CAN GIVE IT TO ME....:)

If you drive up here and get it!

I thought the 3100 PCM will still work without a camshaft signal. It uses the crank position sensor to "back it up" so I've heard. Where's Ben?

Maybe! You could always try it. :)

It will definitely set a check engine light though.
