willsboattail
I have a 93 Cutlass Vert with 3.4 V6. At highway speeds it hesitates/stumbles upon any more than light acceleration. Let off the gas and it's back to normal. Idle fine, in town cruising fine. :thumbsup:Vehicle has 79,000 miles, and no other issues. :thumbsup:Kevin in ND
AL
Is it only on the highway? Not in town when you get on the throttle?
willsboattail
I guess maybe a little stumble in town also, but I've only driven the car less than 200 miles this summer. Most noticed when at highway speeds for a short 4-5 mile trip outside of my small town. It's now stored on the farm once again for winter. With the oil boom here in Williston, driving for pleasure is NO MORE!! Edited November 12, 2011 by willsboattail
AL
Sounds like it could be a coil pack
94 olds vert
Not to clutter up your thread. I've heard about the oil boom on the news. I saw video too of lots of new housing developments being built.
tornado_735
With the oil boom here in Williston, driving for pleasure is NO MORE!! Â Ha, I have halfway considered moving out there to try and get a job The only thing that scares me is the winter. Earliest I'd do it was spring. willsboattail
No, this isn't helping my engine problem, but where I work, we are currently looking for 6 new cops and at least 4 new 911 dispatchers.... McDonalds closes dining area at 7PM ( short on help) and drive thru at 10:30pm takes 1/2 hour to go thru... Wal Mart can't keep shelves stock each day... AND NO PLACES TO LIVE. 5 new motels this summer and nearly 15 new apartment complexes in various stages of building. Luckly I've been here 29 years and already own my home!!!!!! tornado_735
sorry for the hijack, haha! Â I'm going to lean with Al and say it could be an ignition coil. Â You might also check your fuel pressure.
willsboattail
:dance:I am reposting, updating this question one more time, just to see if more answers can confirm, or suggest new possibilities for this problem. Vert is stored for winter, but want to get it fixed in April and ready for sale then. ANY HELP WELCOME
94 olds vert
If you want to check things I'd check the fuel pressure, fuel filter, spark plugs, spark plug wires. Al already mentioned the coil pack. Could be a clogged fuel injector.
GOT2B GM
clogged cat could be another possibility
Galaxie500XL
I've seen bad throttle position sensors do the same thing, but usually when that's an issue, the TCC is constantly locking and unlocking, due to the ECM thinking there's been large movements of the throttle. Most common cause, as has been mentioned is a bad coil. Â I have a 93 Cutlass Vert with 3.4 V6. At highway speeds it hesitates/stumbles upon any more than light acceleration. rich_e777
Give her a full tune up and then go from there. If you`ve been storing her in the winter in a barn no telling whats gotten up in there. My `94 was a barn find about 5-6 years ago and still to this day i am pulling pieces of hay and old dead spiders out of it. Have you used any fuel stabilizer or anything to store the car? Could be a vacuum leak that only presents itself when the pressures in the engine go up.
willsboattail
No on the Stabil until this winter, but have had no issues with varmints in the 72 Buick stored with it. Tuneup sounds good for spring (although expensive?) as I have no history on the car beofre I got it 2 years ago. Only that the timeing belt was replaced and brakes done. I've had the tranny serviced and a motor mount replaced. I looked back at orginal post and see I neglected to mention that for a while early last spring it was fiercely missing after washing the enigne bay. That eventually cleared up for the most part with only this problem remaining. (Probably important??!!??) Thankyou all for the advice. Any more still welcome! 94 olds vert
Something could of shorted when you washed the engine bay. What color is your spark plug wires?

urbex
If it happened after getting wet, then I'd look there. Sounds similar to what my Lumina was doing, and my problems started immediately after driving through deep water. My problem (may have been) the spark plug wires.... 94 olds vert
Those could be your original wires that came with the car when it was new. Most new wires you get at the parts store would be black and not the red/orange.
rich_e777
Sounds like water got into a cylinder or was sucked into a vacuum line. Tune up for these old girls isnt expensive at all, thats why i love mine. Start with the oil/filter, spark plugs, top off the tranny fluid, check all your spark plug wires for anything that might be wrong, and get a new air filter and see if that doesnt help. After that i`d start looking at new spark plug wires or new coil packs.  Oh and check your grounds real good, and maybe clean them up as best you can with a wire brush. Pull us out a spark plug and lets see what they say  Nice GP, the 3.4 only came with one upper dogbone? i could have sworn the CS conv. i was under the other day had two. Im stuck with the 3100 for now so its just what im used to i guess. And your tower strut looks like you done some cornering in her, its bent like hell. willsboattail
Cornering??? Strut tower bent???? WHOAA...... UHHH....... Not by me!!!!!!!! (age 55) I've only had the car 3 years and driven less than 1000 miles in that time. Don't know about the previous owner tho!!??!! By bent, you mean the brace bar between the two towers??????? Any pics of what it should look like????
94 olds vert
Your strut tower bar looks fine to me. Â Â That's my Gp with a 3.4l bar on it. Lq1 does have only one upper dog bone. 3.1/3100 has two.

willsboattail
:DHave not checked plugs, but spring is coming. :thumbsup:Car stored inside a building 10 miles from town along with nearly a dozen other collector cars. Steve
Mine did the same thing after I washed it a little too good, blew out one of the coils. I replaced & moved the coil pack & all was good!!
