skitchin
Do you reckon something like this? http://www.summitracing.com/parts/KYB-SB106/ [from other site]"Includes a travel-limiting bumper that prevents the strut from bottoming out; This high quality strut boot keeps dirt away from your strut to prolong its optimum performance." BXX
Yup, its the jounce bumper. Or just get a set of rear mounts off me (end shameless plug:lol:)

That kind of depends on if you're still making/selling them bad boys sometime down the road. What sort of issues should I be aware of running stock mounts vs your heavy duty mounts? Beats me, im sure the stock mount wont last forever. My mounts, well the spherical bearing can start to wear out over time and get noisy. They aren't exactly caddy quite anyway. I doubt I will be making any parts anymore after the 1st of the year..
skitchin
Just got my bumper/boot kit - the rubber jounce bumper is waaay different . It's a lot longer - proper diameter for the isolator to slide over though. Thought it could maybe work because it gets a bit wider halfway up - but the isolator is able to slide completely up and off. I might be able to hack the top part off that goes into the mount so that the isolator just sits flat against the mount after pushing all the way up... Thoughts here guys? skitchin
Bob, do you have a set of mounts laying around, or be willing to make me a set? Guess I'm done fooling around with the stock mounts.
Venom
What struts are you using? When I ordered my KYBs they came withe the correct mount.
skitchin
I bought KYB GR2's. The problem though is I need something to keep the coilover isolator in place - bxx showed how to use a stock jounce bumper to do this, but I'm guessing the bumper he used was GM, and the one I got is KYB. You said your struts came with a mount? Did you order a coilover kit from somewhere or?
Venom
Looking back on my old threads, I used kyb struts with gabriel mounts. I could use those bouncers you bought for my front struts though I have an old pair of gabriel struts in the garage, ill go out and check to see if they will work for you. I have a set of the plates laying around. I would just have to order the easy to get other materials and haz them welded. skitchin
Bleh, I know Bob's mounts are the right way to go, just wish I could save some of what I already have. Bob's mounts are lower profile and require different springs. Was thinking I could maybe use the coilovers by using a 2" spacer like this one from A-1 racing http://shop.a1racing.com/colst409-2.aspx but doubt that would fit the design of these at all, not to mention barely saving money. Anyone wanna buy a set of stock mounts and 12"x2.5"x300lb coilovers?

AWeb80
Uh......you don't need those jounce bumpers. Is the weight of teh car on that spring? if not, the spring will compress and then the jounce buumpers will be in the way. You'll have no dampning...it'll be a solid ride. if the weight is on the spring, then when yo hit a bump it's going to jam against the strut housing. take those out of there. skitchin
I replaced my mono-leaf with this setup. Problem is there is no upper collar, so the jounce is sort of acting like a floating collar. I'll keep everyone updated...
skitchin
I've got about 4,000-5,000 miles on this setup and nothings broken:thumbsup:. I still need to redo my front suspension a bit, trim the rear jounce bumpers, and perhaps beef up my sway bar.

I'll probably go this set up or something similiar and upgrade the mounts in the future when someone starts making them again. The CS will be a dry sunny day only driver so glad to hear this set up will last awhile
skitchin
Cool, will be interested to hear how it turns out, be sure to post back! 300lb springs seem very stiff, but this could be because A. my front suspension is factory original w/ 264K miles, or B. Mount is riding on top of the jounce bumper over bumps. Keep in mind the leaf spring also acts like an anti-rollbar, without it you'll lose rigidity. I've got a rear strut tower brace to counter this, but as far as I know you can't use one in a convertible(while still being able to put the top down). iroc2
bob's mounts all the way around FTW.... once i get the fronts, coils and misc, and finally install front and rear
Fraschy
http://www.car-stuff.com/basket.php?add_item_id=4586194 http://www.summitracing.com/checkout/interim.aspx https://02bb9d2.netsolstores.com/cart.aspx So I went through Skitchin's supply list and made carts to buy everything online. I was thinking of converting to coilovers, and I have no clue what I'm really doing. Is this everything that is needed to do the swap? Do I just checkout with these carts, assemble and swap? Schurkey
I was thinking of converting to coilovers, and I have no clue what I'm really doing. If the rear leaf is sagging, less than a hundred bucks will get you replacement spring-tip blocks and a pair of rubber boosters. Labor would be a fraction of a coilover conversion. If the rest of the suspension/body checks out in terms of rust or prior collision damage, you'd be done in a day or less. Moog numbers K6000 and K6544. http://www.w-body.com/showthread.php/52679-Moog-K6000-Leaf-Spring-Helpers-and-Moog-K6544-Leaf-Spring-Pads?highlight=Moog+spring http://www.amazon.com/Moog-K6000-Leaf-Spring-Bushing/dp/B000HPVGAG/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1334529973&sr=8-2 http://www.amazon.com/Moog-K6544-Transverse-Spring-Isolator/dp/B000C57YB6/ref=sr_1_1?s=automotive&ie=UTF8&qid=1334530018&sr=1-
Fraschy
I am just more interested in an all around better suspension type. Are the coilovers smoother?
Fraschy
Oh, my struts are all rusted out and my car is pretty bouncy.
