AL Posted October 7, 2011 Report Posted October 7, 2011 They are riveted on from the factory, you need to drill out the rivots Quote
55trucker Posted October 7, 2011 Report Posted October 7, 2011 Not terribly hard to do. A stand under the sub frame, remove the wheel, disconnect the stabilizer bar on the side you are working on, release the ball joint from the lower control arm, lever down the control arm ( I use some nylon rope between the outer end of the arm & the jack stand to hold the control arm down & out of the way to keep it out of the way). From the bottom side as stated drill out the ends of the four rivets, don't throw away the small shield along side the rotor,( reinstall it), knock out the 4 rivet shanks & you're ready to install the new joint. Make sure that the 4 bolts supplied with the new joint are grade 8 bolts ( the better manufacturers include them). Now reassemble everything. Grease the ball joint before you reassemble the lower arm, depending on the manufacturer the new grease fitting may be pointing in an awkward direction making it hard to get the grease gun onto it when everything is assembled. GOT2B GM Posted October 7, 2011 Report Posted October 7, 2011 or grind the heads off of the rivets Quote
BXX Posted October 7, 2011 Report Posted October 7, 2011 I use my air hammer and shear them right off. Works great unless I forget to sharpen my chisel bit:lol: Quote
