sonyman87
Ok, this weekend i went and got my trans pan dropped again. ever since i bought the car at 104k the transmission(4t60e) driveing from 25-35mph and thing hitting WOT it would just redline the motor without going into gear. I talked with the guy who checked my pan and he was very impress how clean and good looking my transmisson was. No possible way with all the times it wouldnt go into gear could it be that clean. I saw the pan for myself and sure enough it was clean. no metal no junks nothing. I told the guy about my problem and he responded that its SUPPOSE to do that.... Why the hell would that be logical. My only assumption is to save 1st gear from being riped out. The more i thought about it the more it made me realize that reving to 6k+ and then hitting 1st at ~3k thats alot of energy stored in the motor. since the HP rating its more then 100hp off from stock rating that stored energy could surpass the capability of the gear. I also realized that this problem has persisted for well over 50k miles and the transmission is still sound and working strong, except for that situation, that this is true. Ok now that i have said that this is a safty feature for the transmission would problem in the trany could cause this fault to occur? bad bands, fluid lines.. something else? or would this be the standard and normal operation of the 95 version of the 4t60e? Robby1870
Revving like that is not normal. I have never really heard of that as a reason for slipping. Sounds like bad clutch packs

Sounds like bad clutch packs Its not specificly slipping. Automatic Trany.. when im say in 2nd driving at 30mph and i hit it to wot it shifts out of 2nd and just wont go into 1st. ONLY at WOT. At 3/4 or less it will actualy bark the tires a little and go.
Guest RedCutlassSL
My car does also, before and after the rebuild. I brought it back after the rebuild and they took it apart again, and replaced a drum or something. It still did it. So the safety feature makes sense. Anyone with a 4t60-e, take your car out for a drive, travel between 25-35 mph and stomp on it at various speeds. If it just revs to redline, then its definately a safety feature.[/u]
Bolt_Crank
I don't remember my Z ever doing that.... but I'll watch for it now...

sonyman87
Im going to assume its on the later versions of the 4t60e.. probably 94 and up.. Atleast i know im not the only one who has noticed it.
Rob95CS
I have a '95 Cutlass Supreme, 3100, 4T60-E STOCK... does the same exact thing when you stomp on it hard from ~30MPH. I'm sure it is a safety feature. I'm on my second transmission, and they've both done it.

NickGTP
My Z34 used to do that. From 25-35 mph cruising. But only after it shifted into fourth. It would almost miss 1st then it was BANG into it and spin the tires. Horrible for the tranny but really cool. Needless to say I now drive a GTP for that very reason . My GTP has done this also. But only once. I'm not going to make it a habit to try to make it do this. ~ NicK ~
GrandPrix34
happened to me after i yielded at a highway onramp....i floored it and the RPMS shot up...i had to look down at the shifter make sure i hadnt slipped it to Neutral.... SmokesGTP
Definetly never happend to me I'm on my original at over 130k.
ismellrealbad
that definatley should NOT be happening. the car should GO when you give it gas, otherwise thats what neutral or the brake pedal is for. also you said if you give it about 3/4 it'll bark the tires? thats terrible and the equivalent to drop shifting it to do a burnout. i cant tell you whats wrong, but i can tell you that cant be normal. i have a 96 3100 with 4t60e. I changed my tranny fluid @ 75k miles and the pan did have a ton of shavings in it, but the trans operated fine, none of that crap ur talking about. I refilled it and added a bottle of lucas and it eased my hard 1-2 shift problem. i now have 89k miles and it runs fine
ismellrealbad
oh and just because a bunch of other people have the same problem does not make it normal. how many people here with the 2-doors have had their door handle break? the TSS go out in ploom of smoke, or their distributor O-ring go out? .....Oh, a bunch of other people are losing a quart a week. i guess its normal! NickGTP
ismellrealbad makes a good point. ~ NicK ~ PS- Aaron please share with everyone why you don't have this problem. Cmon we all know its coming
Aaron
you still havnt done what i told you to do earlier sonyman!!!
4spdz34
mine doesn't do it, and didn't do it before the rebuild. i've drove tons of 4t60e cars and none of em do that, if your car does that there is a problem with your trans. Bizzo
My 95 Corsica with the 4T60E did that a few times, and it definitely isn't something normal, or something you want to happen everyday. My suggestion is to be a little easier on your tranny, if you want to drive hard get a manual.

sonyman87
OK i have decided its an electrical or computer related problem!! Today i was drive and i stomped on it again at 30mph and it did the whole bounce off the redline.. ok big deal its been doing this for a long time.. so i drive a while longer and decided to give it 99%throttle at that speed and bam! it went into gear and planted me in my seat! WOW i havent felt that in a long long time. i almost busted out laughing b/c it suprised me. WOW.. i figured ok that had to be a fluke.. ok try it again and bam the same thing like clock work.. to test my theory i planted the pedal to the floor again at 100% throttle and bouncing off the readline it went. any ideas what it could be? the motor is very healthy and will hit fuel cutoff really quickly at wot.
