3.4 DOHC smokes on startup ONLY.

Hey guys my 1996 Lumina LQ1 seems to smoke a bit of blue the second it starts and thats it, it does not smoke while idling or driving. This happens for litterally one second, but it smells. It does run perfect, the other day it GTECHED 0-60mph in 8.03sec. Which I think is beyond healthy for a 15 year old car. The exhaust is Magnaflow Cat and dual cherrybombs, could it be moisture or? I've heard the 96' engines were bad for valve seals, but it doesn't always smoke at all, just the second it starts, thoughts?

It's more than likely the valve seals.

Oil leaks past them when it's been sitting, and pools on the valves. It burns off on startup.

Nothing really to worry about, as it's not a really serious problem. More annoying than anything. Just keep an eye on your oil level.

I'd only be worried if I was leaving a trail of blue smoke everywhere I went. Car is 15 years old, it's still going strong. Like I said, it will still lay down a healthy 0-60mph time and sounds incredible, it'd be about time I got more pics up of old green :)

Yes pictures please! It's not really a problem it will take a long time before it gets worse. Mine got worse slowly. That's why I had it fixed.

BTW I love the sound of your exhaust.

Thanks alot man, I really could do no wrong with the exhaust on this green car....though it has the 1.5G Lumina body, it sounds so much better than my Z34.

I'll take some picstures tomorrow, I'm off work so I can do that! It still looks really nice for it's age. It is rather disgusting though how much money I've put into this car, I couldve had a Corvette probably haha.
