AL
The engine I am picking up for the GTP, I was told has quite a bit of valvetrain noise which I would like to eliminate... Would simply replacing the rockers (or upgrading to these http://zzperformance.com/grand_prix/products1.php?id=426&catid=104) quiet it down a bit? I am not sure what usually makes noise in the valve train... I do want to rebuild my heads with new valves, springs, lifters, and pushrods... Maybe even seeing if there are more upgrades I could do while I have the motor torn down... Suggestions? Mods are in my sig, I plan on adding headers and a ported supercharger
jman093
Lifters are 99% of the time the source of valvetrain noise on any hydraulic lifter engine. Either from a bad lifter(s) or an oil pressure problem.
Andrew
yeah i would agree its either the lifters are worn or maybe the rockers werent torqued correctly. either way, get these instead! http://intense-racing.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=IR&Product_Code=3800-YTRR-yyy&Category_Code=HCV get the 1.7 if you plan on camming later, 1.8 if you want to run stock springs and retainers and no cam later, 1.9 and add 105lb springs and new retainers. White93z34
its not really a noisy valvetrain, more like tired out. If it were me I'd replace the springs and perhaps upgrade the rockers.
AL
So 150 lb springs?
Andrew
not 150lb !! you only need those if you run a high lift cam, and then you need to upgrade to a double roller timing set.
AL
I don't know much about the specs of springs... what can I upgrade to? I have a set of heads in my basement just waiting to be built up and installed
Andrew
spring pressure is important. You have to decide what your goals are and go from there. read these. https://www.zzperformance.com/grand_prix/products1.php?id=113&catid=104 https://www.zzperformance.com/grand_prix/articles1.php?id=
