Aron Nance
Have asked a local muffler shop about the possibility of installing duals on our new/old '94 Cutlass Convertible. He said no, that only the 3.4 came with them, and they aren't "true" duals. The picture he showed me out of a muffler manufacturers catalog seems to back this theory up, shoiwng a muffler with two "outlets", and then two pipes running to the rear of the car. I'm wondering why these same parts (for the 3.4) couldn't work on the 3.1, other than the fact that the plastic rear bumper facia does not have the additinal "cut" on the driver's side for the pipe to protrude. Has anyone tried this conversion?
jeremy
The guy is a moron. Find a different shop.
Artemis
Like Jeremy said, dude is a moron. They aren't true duals, thats true. But doesn't matter which engine you have, plenty of 3.1's have the dual exhaust.
GOT2B GM
It's bolt on, just need the add the dual cutout bumper cover (or make your own cutout) and add the drivers side hanger.
Psych0matt
do it, and then go back and laugh at the guy when you show him
55trucker
If you go into the Maremont E-catalog you can see their OEM replacement system for the Grand Prix equipped with the 3.1. (The Walker catalog will give you the same result). The system is essentially the same as the DOHC application with a few exceptions up front where downpipe dia is concerned & the addition of a resonator. All the piping at the rear is the same dia. irregardless of what engine is up front. http://maremontexhaust.innovativelogic.com/Assembly.aspx?ID=2018&BID=2&MMY=2258&NID=0 http://maremontexhaust.innovativelogic.com/Assembly.aspx?ID=2034&BID=2&MMY=2258&NID=0 Edited September 29, 2011 by 55trucker
Mel87
It is possible.. easily, this is one thing I would like to do to my car, but I still have to come across a bumper cover with the dual outs cause I don't want to cut mine. urbex
I'm guessing the guy just didn't want to do it. Shit, I've personally seen HHRs with duals on them, which never came that way from the factory. So I know you could do it on the 3.1... 94 olds vert
This has been done. Get the y pipe from a junkyard and grab the hangers and take it to another shop and have it installed. Any 88-96 w-body y-pipe should work. Once it's done take it to that shop and show the guy. 3.1/3100 could get dual exhaust from the factory.
AWeb80
you can get custom exhaust. I had mine done from the Down pipe back.
Garrett Powered
and that is one of the sickest exhaust systems I have seen on one of these cars
AWeb80
haha, thanks. It's not much. ~$400 worth and cheap aluminized. the cat was the most expensive part.
LuminaPower92
I redid the exhaust on the Lumina. Ill get a pic of it underneath. Costed me 300 bucks to do from the cat back with 2 magnaflow knock off stainless steel mufflers and using stainless steel piping.
94 olds vert
That is sick. Really makes that Lumina mean.
