Hairdo12
Two weeks ago I got the damn tighten gas cap message on the DIC and then eventually the check engine light came on. So a new cap didn't fix the problem, so I traced the problem to a faulty EVAP vent solenoid. I replaced it a week ago, cleared the code (P0455 large evap leak), drove about 200 miles in about 12-14 trips. Each day I run my scan tool and each day it still says the EVAP test is incomplete. Anyone know how long or what conditions are needed to get the damn computer to be satisfied with the EVAP system? The best Google comes up with is "the evap test is complicated". I'm not due for inspection until July 2012 so its nothing pressing... however I have OCD and I just want the damn thing to say OK so I can call it a job well done. alec_b
That's because the EVAP test runs each time the car starts. You may not be scanning it at the right time. Usually the drive cycle takes at least 15 minutes, requires a certain change in coolant temp, etc etc. If you've driven 200 miles over that many trips, believe me. It's fixed. EVAP codes are usually 1 trip, sometimes 2 trip codes. And they WILL come back. P04xx codes are my worst nightmare at work, although GM's are the easiest. Try diagnosing any japanese EVAP system and see how much fun it is haha.

alec_b
The problem with EVAP systems is that the code definitions are VERY general. Very small leak, small leak, large leak. Occasionally you'll get a circuit code. Sometime all you get is the dreaded P0440 - EVAP system malfunction. REAL SPECIFIC! As stated... I hate EVAP.
