white4d96
Two times today I got P0171 (bank 1 lean.) I'm assuming since it's just one bank it's not fuel pressure related, but since it's the whole bank it's not an injector. O2? It's probably way past due for replace anyways, so may as well. What brand of O2 do you recommend? I know to avoid Bosch, but that's about it...<br><br>What else should I look at in diagnosis?
GP1138
I got one of these the other day too, and from what I'm reading, it could be a MAF as well. I'm going to clean mine and I suggest you do the same, since it's easy and free!
white4d96
Worth a try I suppose. Did your car seem to bog down big time when the code popped?
GP1138
No, I haven't noticed any change in drivability.
white4d96
Hm. Because when mine popped, the car felt completely DEAD under hard throttle. Like, 70mph, hit the gas, it would barely hold steady.
jeremy
Why would you hammer the throttle on a car that is running lean?
Andrew
since there is only 1 upstream o2, bank1 refers to all cylinders. Newer cars have 2 upstreams, one for each bank. and yeah the two likely culprits are the o2 or MAF. Other possibilities are an exhaust leak, or even a weak fuel pump. white4d96
Why would you hammer the throttle on a car that is running lean? The code popped shortly after. I took it easy on it after MIL was tripped. BTW it went away and doesn't even show up as pending now Probably still going to change the o2 out I think. It's past due for a change anyhow. jman093
In addition to other suggestions it may also be a vacuum leak or intake gasket leak.
BXX
In addition to other suggestions it may also be a vacuum leak or intake gasket leak. Most common reason for a lean code.

virtuetovice
DENSO! I got a Denso o2 sensor and it's great. As far as I've heard, the AcDelco sensor is a rebaged Denso with its price multiplied by 3.
white4d96
So uh...a month after my LIMG change, code is back. Also getting o2 low voltage code. I tried replacing the o2 when I had the LIMG apart but even with a o2 socket, line wrench, and everything else we could think of to use, couldn't get the effer to budge. Just started to round off. Ugh. Anyone got pointers? Oh, and uh...I'm losing coolant again. Big time. Either that or my level sensor is on its way out. Air bubble maybe? IDK! Your coolant light could very be either an air pocket or a bad sensor. They're pretty tempermental on 3100 W's. Is there radiator full of coolant and the light comes on? If so it's not low coolant level causing it.
white4d96
Car was hot when it came on. Overflow tank was low so I added probably a quarter gallon. It came on again but level was unchanged from when I filled it. I tried heating the sensor and it still didn't budge. I'll try again today maybe and if it doesn't work I may just see how much a shop will charge to do it.
