Project Frankintrigue issues

Just got through the damage phase of project Frankintrigue. She's lookin' good. Has a new rad support, hood, fender, radiator, headlights, etc.

Now comes some electrical issues.

First off THE CAR IS TRYING TO START ITSELF!! I kid you not. If you drive it around and then turn it off, wait a few minutes and the engine will crack over completely randomly. No spark, no fuel. It's acting as though the starter relay is being activated. If you turn the key to "on" it doesn't do it. It also doesn't do it when the car is running. I've tried other starter relays and the same thing happens

Also, the car is only running on 3 cylinders. I scanned it and 2,4,6 cylinders are not firing. "multiple misfire" code on all 3. I think it MAY be the little module on the front of the motor[ignition/injector?] but not sure. Besides this the car runs perfectly....just SLOW :lol:

I've been told that the entire interior electrical system will go nuts as well. The sunroof won't work, radio will go nuts, cluster, etc. When I drove the car i didn't see it but supposedly it's intermittent. The turn signals will randomly mess up as well.

I also understand that the car sat through hurricane Irene...hoodless. :facepalm:

My guess is the PCM/BCM will need to be replaced due to the possibility of being waterlogged but I'm looking for a few more expert opinions. The only thing that leads me to believe that it may be something else is the fact that i can still pull codes. :think:

IF it is in fact a good possibility;

Can I pull a treasure yard PCM/BCM set with no problems?? Like...if i were to pull both from the same car would it run correctly? I know on a lot of newish cars the PCM and BCM are tied to each other by VIN and won't run if separated.

I had almost all of the same problems with my 01 Intrigue a couple weeks back, except instead of leaving hoodless in a hurricane, I soaked the engine bay to clean it. Let the car sit in a heated garage for a few days and let it dry out - chances are those problems might all go away. I checked every fuse, changed the coil packs for the misfiring, checked the relays, and nothing changed. Let it sit one day, gauges came back as well as the radio, etc, and the starter wasn't cranking itself. My turn signals were also working on their own with absolutely no direction, and without the key even being in the ignition (that stopped as well after letting the car dry out). Let it sit in a garage over a long weekend, and no more misfiring. Check for water in the seating of the plugs... Give this a try before spending money and time on it. Apparently these are known for giving a ton of grief when their engine bays get wet.

Well bud, you were right. There was a crapload of water under the front coilpack and drowning the plugs. I also cracked the PCM open, dumped some isopropyl in it, shook it around and stuck it in the oven with the door open. It dried out nicely and as far as I've heard no problems since besides the fact that it's STILL a little weak. I suggested changing the plugs, we'll see what happens soon enough. :lol:
