Blue Smoke!!!!!!!!!

So i got the bad o ring oil leak. I took my car on a trip this weekend drove a total of 150?? miles. Now when i got back it blows blue smoke everytime i start it. When it runs you can barely see the blue if any at all when it is warmed up. I put in 3 quarts of oil during the whole trip think i put in too much? I should probably check that. Also, could i just have a bad seal some place now? This sucks.

I checked the oil. Yea its a little way past full. Do i have to drain the whole oil pan to fix this? Will it cause huge problems if i just let it leak out and burn some? Before i left for the trip it needed a quart. When i got to my destination it needed a quart. When i didnt check the level so i added a quart and now its too full.

gotta remember to check the oil level after the car has sit for a little bit. so the oil in the top of the engine has had time to drain to the pan.

i learned this the hard way in an old vehicle i had.

Theres no way the O-ring can leak 3 quarts in 150 miles. Mine leaks terrible and it leaves about a 5x5 Spot of oil everytime I turn the car off, highly annoying but oil is cheap. It only leaks right after you turn off the car for a few minutes. That blue smoke though is definetly not good.

Oh I was wondering if maybe really high mileage would cause blue smoke. I used some high mileage oil in my 94' Bonne that used to do the same thing on startup and it disappeared.

you have to take off the throttle body and some fuel lines and the airhose and everything, its a bitch to get at really but when your done with it you feel glad you got it over with

the o-ring is not causing your blue smoke out the exhaust...I would check the PCV valve for proper operation, if your PCV system is clogged, you will have excess crankcase pressure that will cause oil to be pushed by seals and possibly some out the exhaust...if your pcv valve doesn't rattle, then replace it 8) Good luck fixing the problem(s)..my o-ring on my 3.1 is leaking although I replaced it two months ago when I put the spare motor in the 93..it's probably going to be dealt with mid-week this week...I must have pinched the damn o-ring when installing it

the dealer said it takes 10.1hrs or something to replace. But one brian89gps site, he pointed it out and it looked like it was right underneath the lower intake. How would this take 10.1 hrs?

Cuz you have to pull the rear head to do it right

Usually when you see blue/green smoke coming from the exasust it means head gasket. Atleast thats what i have heard.

Please someone correct me on this. Im only half sure about it

Blue smoke means oil is burning. If a head gasket goes, you usually see A LOT of white steam, since the coolant is leaking into the cylinders or out of the block. Typical oil leaks are the oil pump drive O-ring, and the lower intake gasket

hmmm

i had an oil leak that i thought nothing about as it was really small. after my project it is a whole lot less but still there. next step is the oil pump drive o-ring.

so what the man says is true. :)

Blue smoke usually means an internal engine problem. Such as a stuck oil ring and/or excess blowby. Typically you see increased oil consumption. Try a simple compression check. Do a dry test without adding oil to the cylinders, record your compression. Then do a wet test, add about a tablespoon of oil, if compression increases significantly, you may have worn or stuck rings. Not a hard test, the tool is relatively cheap and if you can pull a spark plug you can do it.

Just for the record, as Robby mentioned, if you were burning coolant,(head gasket) you would see quite a bit of white smoke.
