ThirdgenTa
So I just got my Illinois Vehicle emissions notice in the mail today. I have a 3" ZZP catless dp with an o2 sim. Last time I read it with a basic scanner it was fluctuating properly. I currently have no codes. I guess I am just scared they will do a visual and look under the car. Maybe I am just paranoid? Anyone have this happen? I think there is some pretty hefty fines for not having cats on a car.
jman093
There's no way you'll pass a sniffer test without a converter.
ThirdgenTa
There's no way you'll pass a sniffer test without a converter. I have an 03 regal obd2. They don't do sniffer tests here in illinois anymore, just computer scan.
RareGMFan
Even if they do that, what can they say if you tell them you don't know anything about cars, this is how it came when you bought it? I did the emissions test that same day I ran into you at Advance. Drove the car around a bit more on Euro's MAF sensor, and my SES light finally went out. Took it to emissions, and it passed with flying colors. They gave me their "highest award": 2 years before I have to be tested again. I thought that was standard, so I'm not sure if he was joking (very unlikely), or if something changed over the last couple years. Anyhow, I didn't see them check for cats on any single car. So long as you have no codes popping up at the time of the test, and you haven't cleared codes/disconnected the battery very recently, you're 100% fine. ThirdgenTa
Yah maybe I will just take it in and get it over with. Oh and I forgot to mention that when I walked out to my car from the junkyard there was some guy standing by the back of your car. Don't know exactly what he was doing but I gave him a hard stare and he walked away from it. It was the guys that owned the really clean black GTP that was in the South West corner of the lot. Don't know if it was still there when you left. They were just walking in.
Schurkey
How difficult can it be to put in a cat and an O2 sensor? It's not like you're gaining significant performance by removing the cat.
white4d96
For once I agree with Schurkey. Hot Rod did a test fairly recently (2, maybe 3 years ago?) where they dyno tested a 500hp SBC with and without cats, and putting cats on cost less than ten horsepower. I forget the exact number but I know it was insignificant.
ThirdgenTa
Because I bough a 3 inch dp that was catless. And I don't own a 500hp sbc. I own a 3800 Regal and there have been improvements with getting rid of the u bend and bigger exhaust.
white4d96
Yes, a ubend delete and bigger exhaust will help the car breathe better. But you could still put a cat in is all I'm saying. I guess I aimed it more towards those certain people that hack the cats off everything they own to "free up power"
GtpKo
I haven't tested this yet, but wouldn't a bigger cat allow you to get back half the hp lost by having one? I personally have 3", and know of someone over on oqcgp.com who put a 3" CARB cat for a cadillac on his GP and passed with flying colors. I bought zzp ported manifolds, zzp 3" catless dp, 3.4zzp pulley and an o2 sim for a deal I couldn't pass up. So that's why I put a catless dp on my car. The point of this thread is to find out other peoples experience with emissions without a cat. Not a debate on how stupid it is or how much horsepower I gain or lose because of it. So please stay out of my thread if you have nothing to ad regarding my topic
white4d96
I was actually saying I understand why you put it in but whatever. You already know you will pass.

ThirdgenTa
Took it in a few days ago. For some reason they tested it twice, but I passed.

AMP
i dont think Kansas has meany emission laws you dont have to get you vehicle inspected before tagging and they really well they never look at your car, so i could run strait pipe and get away with it:lol:
