ReBlown47 Posted August 24, 2011 Report Posted August 24, 2011 Basically everything on my car is stock right now, but im planning on supercharging it pretty soon. i figured im due for some new struts since i get alot vibration in the steering wheel on the highway. what else should i be looking to upgrade while im down there? should i lower the car if its a daily driver or keep it stock? AL Posted August 24, 2011 Report Posted August 24, 2011 Vibration in the steering is the tires... They need balanced or replaced... I have a lowered DD and the ride is very stiff, handles great but I dont really have any curves in my commute, but potholes make it feel like the car is about to break in half and my spare change rattles on every bump too Quote

It all depends on how much money you have to sink into it. Start with bushings and replace worn parts before you start upgrading. Replace the subframe bushings, upgrade sway bar bushings with polyurethane ones, and then start off small with upgrades like strut tower bars and poly control arm bushings before you start lowering it. ReBlown47 Posted August 24, 2011 Author Report Posted August 24, 2011 (edited) Vibration in the steering is the tires... They need balanced or replaced... I have a lowered DD and the ride is very stiff, handles great but I dont really have any curves in my commute, but potholes make it feel like the car is about to break in half and my spare change rattles on every bump too tires are 1 month old and have been both balanced and aligned and i still feel the alot vibration in the steering wheel usually when i get up to 40mph+, i usually drive on the highway but i can usually feel every bump or dip on main streets as well. Well im not try to spend to much money less than $1000 with the struts the lower the better. So far everything from the kyb parts catalog adds up to $580 with shipping from rock auto. includes struts, bellow, bearing, coil spring seat, and mounts Uploaded with ImageShack.us Edited August 24, 2011 by ReBlown47 Quote
Crazy K Posted August 25, 2011 Report Posted August 25, 2011 you do not need lower springs seats and bearing plates "just because", you need them only if they are bad(rare). I would get: front struts catridges rear struts rear strut mount <---IMPORTANT I prefer to use the Monroe mounts and use the stock dust boots in their mount, skipping out on the bellow style ones that have failed on me. I also add a fender washer at the top for security and ease of installation... and everything else can be skipped p.s. what type/brand of tire did you get? Quote
mra32 Posted August 25, 2011 Report Posted August 25, 2011 I would replace the lower spring seats/bearings. I didnt do it on mine when i lowered my car and was sorry a year later when the thing started clicking on steering. Yes im sure thats what was making the noise. they were like $20 from rockauto when I bought them last (still have them new in my garage and will sell them). Those are a pain to replace if you have to go in and replace just those and its not much money. Quote
ReBlown47 Posted August 26, 2011 Author Report Posted August 26, 2011 Well i was gunna replace everything right now just in case i wanna lower the car in the future. Will the Monroe mounts work with the Kyb struts? Why are they so cheap compared to the Kyb? Where can i get the subframe and sway bar bushings at? i replace all 4 tires with Firehawk Wideoval AS Quote
