The 3100 (and subsequently the 3400) had plastic lower intake manifold gaskets that fail over time. Unless it has already been replaced with the revised metal gaskets, it will fail at some point and either coolant gets in the oil (seems to be the most common result), oil gets in the coolant, or it leaks externally (which mine did). Just make sure that the coolant and oil are clean (and also look for external leaks around the lower intake) and you should be good to go.
