BN
On my 96 Grand Prix 3.1. The engine makes a chattering type sound from the serpentine belt area but when the a/c is turned on it stops and sounds fine. Any ideas?
BXX
The A/C compressor clutch is failing. Replace it and you'll be all set. To replace just the clutch, you'll need a clutch puller and installer. Most parts stores rent them.
94 olds vert
Man, you just can't get a break with yours cars. I agree with the AC clutch on the way out.

BN
Man, you just can't get a break with yours cars. I agree with the AC clutch on the way out. You got that right! it wouldn't be so bad but I have friends that have 175,000+ miles on their cars, totally abuse them, do no maintenance, and have 1/10 the problems that I have? 94 olds vert
Just replacing the clutch will be cheaper. A new AC compressor at the store could cost 200 dollars. I haven't forgotten about the junkyard. Just had to work a full day today.

BN
Yes. Love the car. I knew there'd be some bugs since the car only averaged 2k miles per year.
BN
Doe's anyone know if the clutch can be changed with the compressor left on the car? I'm thinking if comp. has to be removed, might as well replace it with a new one. Input?
BN
Good news for once. Took it to repair shop and they adjusted it. $40, noise is gone.
