Laveen Z34
Little history: Car Miles = 174,000 +; 4 months ago found out radiator cracked = replaced; then RPM after starting straight to 3,000 RPM with coughing and rapid temperature rise without overheating = replaced LIMG, valve cover gasket, timing belt (it was almost time @ 60,000 miles interval), water pump and even replaced spark plugs = no more high RPMs with coughing, burning oil smell probably from all the previous oil leaks especially on surface. Now, just last week saw an oil leak on the ground, not towards left or towards right it looked more middle. What is it? Cleaned it real good then drove it, raised it, can't see. Then drove it then raised it and it looked like rear main seal and tranny gasket (side one)? How much time and how much am I looking at here? ATTENTION ALL PROS, I NEED YOUR HELP. I WANT TO KEEP THIS AMERICAN MUSCLE GOING AND THERE'S NOT TOO MUCH OF THIS CAR I SEE HERE IN PHOENIX (1 OR 2 MAYBE). White93z34
Take a look with a flashlight under the throttle body you'll see a round thing about an inch or so in diameter. that is the oil pump drive shaft the seal in there can leak causing what you are describing. do some searches and there should be a thread in the FAQ section about it. 55trucker
If you suspect the rear main seal, remove the plastic shield on the bottom of the trans and shine a light up thru the access hole and you should be able to see in front of the converter any dampness in there. As Chris said above with regards to the oil pump shaft drive plug, and if you need more sight room, pull off the exhaust crossover and you'll get a better view in there. Laveen Z34
Thanks Chris. I'd do just that. Saw on previous threads that you were working on a 93 Z34 about a year or so ago. Is it done? I posted a thread on where I can get a harmonic balancer, any suggestions?
