chadz34
Hey guys, just wanna let my Z34 run a little cooler seeing as how it's strictly a summer car. If I change the 195F thermostat out for say a 180F, will I have to send Ben my chip for a retune? Or, will the car pick up on it? Thanks! ChadZ34, 92' Lumina Z34 56,000km. RobertISaar
the PCM only knows what you tell it, it will not automatically compensate for a different thermostat.
chadz34
Screw it then. Unreal the heat this car makes, the LS never ran so hot, but I tossed the 180F stat in it, and it picked up on it instantly. Only runs a quarter temp. AliasCT
The T-stat is a mechanical device, the PCM will only know that it's running cooler. However IMO a Ben chip (WOT-Tech, right?) would be worth it. He sets it to command the fans on earlier for more consistent engine temps. I've been debating it for a long time now simply because of that! FYI, when I emailed him about whether I should drop the temp of the T-stat he suggested that it's not "necessary" unless you're running performance mods (ie. you expect the engine to run hot when moving). The T-stat will only keep your engine at 180F when the car is moving...
