Marcus18
how much boost can they take with stock internals and stock CR? also can at engine take 4psi at all rpms? I was thinking about a vortecsupercharger with a variable gear ratio so theres 4psi at idle to 7000. any thoughts? marcus
Bolt_Crank
timg is running 7lbs boost or something like that on his turbo DOHC... 4lbs should work just fine... some people estimate that it can hold up to 12lbs boost, others say more, some less... search and you'll probably learn more than I can tell ya... The motor can handle alot of psi but the transmission goes from steel to silly puddy with that much hp. 4psi would work just fine IMO. Let us know how it turns out! Marcus18
well I have to buy the car still. but I'm trying to get it all planned out. 4 psi on desktop dyno showed 350hp at 7000rpm. if I can go higher than thats even better. I think it will be converted to a 5 speed. I may continue my plans for a RWD gp with it. but thats along way in the future. marcus
Bolt_Crank
where can I find me a desktop dyno? o.o
brian89gp
desktop dyno is usually pretty generous... 4psi will get you around 280-300 at the crank. 8 about 350, and 10-12psi around 400-
kiwi133
Are your serious? Those hp numbers seem amazing for the boost numbers!
timg
hmm... I thought I posted here. Don't even bother with 4 psi. It'll work, but the motor's not even stressed at 6-7 psi and it feels so much better than 4-5 psi!! Good luck! That's almost exactly what I was going to do for senior design before my partner backed out on it. Tim
timg
Here's what I got from turbonetics on boost vs Hp. The estimated wheel HP is based on stock dynos that I've seen. This is for an intercooled turbo. Boost Crank Wheels 0 - - - 210 - - -166 4 - - - 283 - - - 224 5 - - - 294 - - - 232 6 - - - 305 - - - 241 7 - - - 317 - - - 250 8 - - - 328 - - - 259 10 - - 352 - - - 278 12 - - 375 - - - 296 Tim
