slick Posted July 16, 2011 Report Posted July 16, 2011 Tires on the steel wheels are getting to the end of there life. So, towards the end of summer, we will be replacing them. For those that don't remember, we picked up the 16" 5 spoke Bonneville wheels to put tires on. Looking for the standard 225/60/16 tire. Needs to be all-season. Since this is for Rachel, the 2 big things I can think of: -Good traction in any condition (granted, they won't be snow tires, but something decent). -Nothing too stiff (good ride quality). Thanks. tornado_735 Posted July 16, 2011 Report Posted July 16, 2011 One set of tires I had that I really liked were Goodyear Assurance Tripletreds. Great traction in the rain and snow, handled great, and the treadwear was outstanding. The only downside I can think of is that they're a touch on the expensive side. Quote
tornado_735 Posted July 16, 2011 Report Posted July 16, 2011 They're actually not that expensive. Tire Rack has them at $130 apiece. Quote
carkhz316 Posted July 16, 2011 Report Posted July 16, 2011 They're actually not that expensive. Tire Rack has them at $130 apiece. Wow that's it? That's the cheapest I've seen 'em yet. Last time I checked on TR they were closer to $150-$170 ea. Might have to jump on a set for wifey's car. Quote
BXX Posted July 16, 2011 Report Posted July 16, 2011 Aboot the only decent Goodyear tire these days is the Triple Tread. Tis a heavy tire and loves to take alot of wheel weight. When I worked for a Goodyear, the number one issue with the tires was always vibration. Firestone FR710 and Affinity Touring are two good all season tires with good treadlife. The 710 are bit better. There are nice Bridgestone options, but expect to pay more for a better tire. Michelin, not really that good on snow at all. They also get very slippery with still half treadlife, tend to be very very quite though with excellent ride quaility. Continental and Pirelli, stay away. Basically OE quality on almost all tires, aka you'll get 30K out of them on average. Mastercraft, look into their current line. Quality has seriously improved, and cost is still easy on the wallet. Hope that helps some. Me personally, I recommend Bridgestone Turanza Serenity. Quote
alec_b Posted July 16, 2011 Report Posted July 16, 2011 Cheap and good treadwear? Kumho KR21. Good enough for MN winters. and they seem to wear nice. It's the only tire we carry in stock at the shop everything else is ordered. Quote
AL Posted July 17, 2011 Report Posted July 17, 2011 I have triple treads on the GTP, I have never lost traction in them and I drove through plenty of snow when they were on the 97 and they handled amazingly Quote
White93z34 Posted July 19, 2011 Report Posted July 19, 2011 I love my Hydroedges for all around good performance, not nearly as good in the snow as a good snow tire is but such is a all season tire. I'll be putting Hankook Optimo H727s on the Avalon sooner then later they (at least according to tire rack) are a very good tire for the money. Quote
pwmin Posted July 19, 2011 Report Posted July 19, 2011 (edited) There's not really such a thing as a tire that's really good for summer and snow. I also like Mastercraft/Cooper tires. Avenger LSR are pretty decent for both. As soon as these crappers I have are done I'm going snow in the winter on the stock wheels and summer on cross-laces. Edited July 19, 2011 by pwmin Quote
Galaxie500XL Posted July 19, 2011 Report Posted July 19, 2011 I've been debating on the BF Goodrich Touring T/R... I had a set on the LeBaron, they seemed like a decent tire at a fairly low price...but the Cutlass is heavier, and sprung a bit softer, so I'm not sure. Quote
