RobertISaar
assuming i get the powertrain blackgtp95 is selling specifically, what problem areas should i look at dealing with ahead of time? i can think of a specific bracket coming off of the alt being #1, and the oil pump drive seal being #2, but what else would be a good idea to deal with while it's still in an easily accessible location? 94 olds vert
The timing belt, the coil pack, spark plugs. Spark plugs are pretty easy to do when in the car.
blackgtp95
timing belt only has 1,500 mile on it, plug wires are new and I have the old set too, also just found an EGR valve not sure if its any good still cant find the ALT
blackgtp95
i think I may have that ALT bracket i have a few odd little brackets and one may be it just found the receipt from the timing belt/idlers/accuater... etc dated OCT 28th 2003 that was 1-2 months before I swapped the car so I guarantee it has less then 1,500 mile on it because this car has never seen snow so it was parked just after it was done another receipt dated 02/02/02 coil packs and module were replaced those only have a year on them also 02/02/02 lower intake gasket was done 5/07/02 Power steering pump I am pretty sure it has a new water pump on it too granted this was along time ago but the car only had 101.xxx and it now has 120.xxx so these parts have very little mileage on them digging through this stuff is bringing up some memories.... RobertISaar
the only thing i'm worrying about is the age of the belt.... i really don't know how those belts stand up to just time itself, even when stored indoors. it would probably be a good idea to pop off the inspection cover and take a look at it myself. i will most certainly be relocating the ICM/coils to somewhere other than under the exhaust manifolds. RobertISaar
indeed. i'm trying to see what kind of hit on fuel economy i can expect compared to the 3.1/3100 W's i'm used to.
94 olds vert
High you can average 29-31 mpg. Galen and Matt have both posted pictures above 30 mpg from Highway trips. In the city you could expect 18-20 mpg. Right now my DIS says 14 mpg. Probably because it hasn't been driven in weeks and I'll idle it for a while once a week. RobertISaar
sounds like just under typical 3.1 numbers for me.
55trucker
All of the wiring split loom that's under & around the bottom & rear of the engine that you can't get at to replace while the engines in the car, after it's all gone brittle and broken into pieces. spiderw31
indeed. i'm trying to see what kind of hit on fuel economy i can expect compared to the 3.1/3100 W's i'm used to. I know others seem to get higher, but mine gets 26/27 on the highway, and 16/17 around town. Average is about 20/21.
94 olds vert
Those figures do seem more realistic for typical city driving. If I try hard it I can get 18+ mpg in the city. Depending on traffic conditions.
RobertISaar
I know others seem to get higher, but mine gets 26/27 on the highway, and 16/17 around town. Average is about 20/21. i drive with a rather light foot and constantly beat EPA numbers by a wide margin, so i expect to be in the "above average" category. however, when all is put together, i'll be doing a few tests on a very untraveled section of road to see what rate of acceleration works out best for a LQ1 w/3.43 gears. spiderw31
I wouldn't exactly say I have a light foot, but I do almost always manage to beat EPA numbers, even the old ones. Even when I had my GTO I'd get 23/24 highway with AC on, and 18 around town, and that was with the 4L60e tranny! My GP has been the exception to that rule though; my suspicion lies with the torque converter. It is so often unlocked, and changes in speed and terrain bring large changes in RPM to go with them. Sorry for the threadjack though...
RobertISaar
it's relevant enough, i asked about fuel economy. i'll have to check out how reactive the TCC lock/unlock is with stock settings and adjust them from there, i know the LH0 in the 90GP benefitted quite a bit from my revised settings, TC now locks all the way down to 26MPH in 3rd with no odd surging or anything. raising the release thresholds helped quite a bit as well too. spiderw31
Lol... I forgot I was talking with the king of code I'd imagine changing the lock/unlock settings would make a huge difference in fuel economy! You'd probably be able to improve numbers quite a bit. King of Code.... i like that, i may have new sig text to write now... it definitely did in the LH0, stock settings were FAR too sensitive to throttle changes, especially at lower speeds. as long as i don't run into shudder or slip, i should be fine.
