02Impala
What exactly is involved in swapping a 3.4l v6 with a 3.8l v6 in a 2002 Impala?

virtuetovice
Despite maths, 60 degrees > 90 degrees. Why would you want to swap for such a little difference in displacement?
Addicted to eaton
Wireing harness and ECM. mounts/transmissions are the same. Maybe down pipe
02Impala
Yeah thanks. I was thinking of swapping the engine mainly because there are more performance parts available for the 3.8. I also want to build the engine myself, just want to know what to expect as far as when I try to put it in.

02Impala
Yeah, I may want to switch out the trans for a 4t65e-hd. That's what was in the impala ss.
Dark Ride
If I were going to do that swap it would be to put in a supercharged 3800, that would make it worth it. But unless you plan on forced induction, (there are some good turbo options for the 3800) the differences between the NA 3400 and the NA 3800 even considering mod options wouldn't be all that great. Is your 3400 blown up or is modding the only reason you chose the 3800?
02Impala
I mainly want to mod the 3800, as the current engine is fine. I was looking at various upgrades including replacing the cam. I want to totally rebuild the engine before I put it in. I would like to put a supercharged 3800 in, but they can be difficult to come by on a budget (which i'm on) so I may just settle for a naturally aspirated 3800, but completely rebuilt. I am not one to tell people what to do with their cars, it is your car do with it what you want. But if I were in your position and you've mentioned desiring an L67, then instead throwing all this money at an L36 and still only getting half of what you want, wait a little longer, save up a little extra cash and get an L67, they don't disappoint! I would shop around, wait for a good deal to come up and jump on it. I bought a wrecked donor car for my TGP from a auto salvage auction, and it was by far the smartest way to do it, I had everything I needed only a few feet away.
