virtuetovice
My friend's dad has an 89 GP, these are the symptoms: 1-2 shift is fine 2-3, it will drop into neutral[around 35 mph or so?] If he starts with the shifter at the 2 position, runs it to around 45 MPH and lets off the throttle for a second, it WILL shift into 3rd. It will not go into 4th under any circumstances. Does anyone POSSIBLY know what's wrong?? The fluid level is perfect, and the fluid itself is a nice clear red with no burnt odor. The only odd thing I noticed is a little bit of black residue on the dipstick. Car has 220xxx miles.

virtuetovice
If anything, the TGP trans would go in my car.
gp90se
Run a bottle of trans cleaner thru as the instructions say, drop the pan and change the filter/fluid. if it solves the problem, do a transmission flush after to get all new fluid in.
