biddieboi
I don't know what to do. M 96 lumina is on the side of the road and won't stay cranked . I pat he gas an it just dies faster then without pattinng the gas. It's been idling roug an when I got to the inyerstate an on it I heard a loud bang noise but don't know for what. So o was driving home an it died but before it did at work I ran a scan tool on it . And codes as followed: (1 of 2) P0140 o2 sensor ckt no activity detected 1/2. P0141 o2 heater ckt malf 1/2. P0300 random/multiple cylinder misfire detected. P1441 evap system flow (2 of 2) during non purging. P1870 transmission component slipping. These are all my current codes. How do they connect. Plz help!
Oilpatch197
Did the loud bang noise sound like a backfire? I would check the fuel pressure with a fuel pressure gauge, or just carefully vent from the valve port. Crank the motor and check your spark plugs for spark and install a spark plug without the wire and crank, then remove it and see if it's wet. Post back. biddieboi
well the sound was a misfire. It was really loud anyways I got the car to crank and looked evrything over an I notice the harmonic balancer is unstable and wobbling like crazy. Isn't the crankshaft position sensor located behind the harmonic balancer? And with it wobbling that badly and irregularly won't that make the car misfire bc of wrong position readings? So if I replace my harmonic balancer. It shouldn't continue to run roug like that. Rigt? And what does that evap code mean exactly? During non purging? I don't understand. But I don't have my tools on my but am a get it to my job and check my plugs. And the last code that was transmission component slipping is that a solenoid proble or major problem or torque converter or what
Galaxie500XL
Based on your finding, take care of the harmonic balancer/crank sensor issue first. Heep in mind, the crank sensor may be damaged... Your other issues might be a result of bad information from the crank...so I'd get the obvious thing first, then see if you can limp it home. biddieboi
ok so i replaced the harmonic balancer today and also the crankshaft position sensor on the lumina yesterday. The engine runs good besides the miss every now and then. So i will replace plugs and wires to remedy that. An the evap plug on the rear of the engine wasnt connected so i connected it up. But the problem still remains with the code P1870 transmission component slipping. And the mystery component is the TORQUE CONVERTER. And i need to have that replaced. The price of the converter at advanced auto parts store is between 116 and 134 bucks. I am wondering what i should do with the lumina. How long will it take to replace the torque converter. I believe u will have to drop the subframe with the engine and transmission. I have put alot of work in the engine to last so i was wondering. The trans fluid is clean no metal no dirt no smell. But it slipps badly. I cant pull into traffic fast because i could cause an accident. I can do alot of work myself i just wanted to know. Or should i just buy a used transmission that i have to pull myself and the pull a part junkyard for $150. Has anyone replaced a transmission or torque converter in their 3100? any general tips or steps? Please help i need alot of feedback. All comments are welcome.
