3800 EATS BELTS

I got this car used and when I got it, the belt has cord loose toward the engine, it also had a bent alternator shaft. Also had much hood insulation missing above the belt area.

So I replaced the alternator with a new unit, new belt and I replaced the water pump.

40,000 miles later I had forgotten about it, and the cord is exposed and wrapped around the crankshaft and took out the crankshaft position sensor.:( also had cracking in the ribs and some missing pieces.

So now I replace the water pump pulley (it was .010" out of round w/ wear) and the Idler pulley(had some play in the bearing)

I checked the other pulleys, and it still seems I'm getting wear on the inside edge of the belt, won't really know for another 10k miles.

the belt seems to be straight and I don't have no wobble in the crankshaft/power steering/AC pulleys... checked with a straight square.

The only pulley that gets close to the back edge of the belt is the alternator, but it's brand new.

I can just change belts every 20K or figure this out.

you said it had a bent alternator shaft, is the alternator bracket or any of the other brackets bent as well, I would start looking there. The belt and all the pulleys should be in a perfect straight line. Perhaps the A/C compressor pulley is seizing.
