95luminaguy Posted June 22, 2011 Report Posted June 22, 2011 i have a 1995 lumi ls.. would this have the 4t60e trans? also.. won't shift into overdrive AT ALL.. and almost always seems like you are at WOT shifting.. any more than maybe 1/4 throttle and you have to let all the way out of it to make it shift any ideas? RobertISaar Posted June 22, 2011 Report Posted June 22, 2011 yes 4T60E, sounds like you need your vacuum modulator or it's vacuum line replaced. Quote
95luminaguy Posted June 22, 2011 Author Report Posted June 22, 2011 thanks a ton.. i'll check that out tomorrow Quote
virtuetovice Posted June 22, 2011 Report Posted June 22, 2011 What's your transmission fluid dipstick look like? Quote
95luminaguy Posted June 22, 2011 Author Report Posted June 22, 2011 looks full.. maybe a lil dark but not low or overfilled Quote
virtuetovice Posted June 22, 2011 Report Posted June 22, 2011 Well if it's got a brown tint to it, you could probably benefit from a pan drop and filter change. Quote
95luminaguy Posted June 22, 2011 Author Report Posted June 22, 2011 tryin that this weekend.. was already planned Quote
95luminaguy Posted June 29, 2011 Author Report Posted June 29, 2011 ok its official.. got fluid, filter, and a modulator..lol.. doin it tomorrow... cross ya fingers Quote
55trucker Posted June 29, 2011 Report Posted June 29, 2011 (edited) ok its official.. got fluid, filter, and a modulator..lol.. doin it tomorrow... cross ya fingers  When you're replacing the filter assembly.....the seal that the filter pushes up into can be a nuisance to get out of the bottomside of the casing. You'll probably need a small flat cold chisel to collapse the seal so it drops out (be careful not to mar the aluminum) and then you can drive in the fresh seal (that should be supplied with the filter.) A 13/16" spark plug socket is just the dia to tap in the new seal. Don't overlook cleaning off the rubber covered magnet attached to the pan of all the material it collects. Are you sure that the trans is not going into 4th...or you're not getting TCC lockup? The trans should go into 4th without lockup if the engine/trans temp is still below what the ECM needs to see to allow lockup. Edited June 29, 2011 by 55trucker Quote
RobertISaar Posted June 29, 2011 Report Posted June 29, 2011 isn't there a tube that supplies lube to the dif that likes to pop off? that would be something to look at as well. Quote
95luminaguy Posted July 2, 2011 Author Report Posted July 2, 2011 will check all that out tomorrow... and ya it could be no TCC lockup.. jus sounds like it reving to high at highway speed about 60MPH or above Quote
95luminaguy Posted July 2, 2011 Author Report Posted July 2, 2011 ok... changed fluid and filter... there was no filter on the tranny to start with now has all new fluid, new filter, one bottle of lucas trans fix,and the cross over tube for the diff was there and is fine... the trans is still doing the same thing... any idea where the sensors are for the temp that allows it to lock up the tcc? Quote
RobertISaar Posted July 2, 2011 Report Posted July 2, 2011 there was no filter????? Â lucas is junk. Quote
95luminaguy Posted July 2, 2011 Author Report Posted July 2, 2011 ya there was no filter at all on it.. put on new regulator from A.Z. and got it adjusted. still same problem... how much trouble is it to get to the TCC selenoid? might try that next.. car has 210,000 miles on it but i would still really like to get this straightened out..gonna rebuild or replace motor in another yr or so and wanna get everything right before then ya know:gears: Quote
RobertISaar Posted July 2, 2011 Report Posted July 2, 2011 the lack of filter may have signed it's death warrant. not only is the filter a filter, it's also the "pickup tube" where the pump draws fluid up, so there's a good chance the trans was starved of fluid for a VERY long time. Quote
95luminaguy Posted July 2, 2011 Author Report Posted July 2, 2011 thats kinda what i was afraid of Quote
Oilpatch197 Posted July 2, 2011 Report Posted July 2, 2011 (edited) No filter! Somebody had NO CLUE.... Â I wonder if it was not done by some Quick Lube place, that is the only way I can see it ever happening, seriously no filter yo! Â So what is your plans for the car now? Edited July 2, 2011 by Oilpatch197 Quote
RobertISaar Posted July 2, 2011 Report Posted July 2, 2011 You'd be better off now getting a Junkyard unit. Â yeah, this would be my suggestion at this point, should you decide to keep the car. Â the ONLY way it would even possibly be able to be saved is if the pan were HIGHLY overfilled, and i mean to the point of where even without the filter, the port it plugs into would never be able to suck air. 95luminaguy Posted July 3, 2011 Author Report Posted July 3, 2011 well considerin how much the wifey loves it.. prolly either a complete overhaul or find a good one and put in it..til then.. jus drive it without the O.D. lol:flamingdevil: Quote
RobertISaar Posted July 3, 2011 Report Posted July 3, 2011 as long as the TCC locks up in 3rd, you won't take much of a fuel economy hit, just extra noise/vibration. Quote
DavidHowell3633 Posted July 20, 2011 Report Posted July 20, 2011 I hestitate to mention this since it apparently only worked for me. But, I had a similar problem of not getting into overdrive, sometimes. On mine, it was the Park-Neutral safety switch not being dialed in perfectly so that I had both the backup lights in R and I could start in Neutral. Good luck. Quote
