AL
I am sick and tired of the hacked up exhaust on the gtp breaking and making the car obnoxious to drive... It breaks right after the cat where the previous owner attempted to put in a u bend delete, however that turned out like shit... His welds are so bad that they cant even be fixed... I wanted originally to just go from the downpipe to the y pipe (resonator has a small hole) but the places I went today told me it is illegal to cut out the cat... I dont know how to weld so this is a job for a shop... Should I put a new resonator in it and have them put a pipe from the cat back in or should I do a resonator delete? ($125 either way they said)
Euro
Is the exhaust all stock besides the hack job u-bend delete? Most places that I've heard of up here won't do business of removing cats either.
AL
Yes stock except u bend delete
Euro
Okay. I think it depends on what you want to do with it. Maybe do an aftermarket catted DP, then res delete?
AL
I may do some youtubing to find out what each option sounds like
Euro
That's a good idea. I was just going to do that, I know certain setups without a resonator sound like complete shit(compared to just normal shit 3800 exhaust notes )
Andrew
my old GT had a catted downpipe and Vibrant res and i thought it sounded decent. With the 3800 i wasnt too keen on a res delete.
9lumina6
Cheapest way to do a res. deliete......just cut it out as close as you can to the resonator itself....go to the parts store and buy piping that will slip over each end and clamp it up. Simple as that. As for the DP....I've said it before...and I'll say it again. Go on the boards and find a used 3'' catted DP. (or non catted...wichever you prefer ) They pop up all the time
AL
Another thing I got to thinking about... Should I look into a flex pipe? The reason I ask is I am running shortened dog bone mounts and the trans has a shift kit that I think is jerking the exhaust and causing it to break where its currently welded
3pt1lumina
Do as Galen says. Al you've seen the Regal so you know what it sounds like. I like the set up that's on it, which is the 3" ZZP DP with the GMPP catback. Even with the stock cat back (when we tried it for about an hour, long story) it sounded great too. I don't have a resonator on mine, and I bought one to put on because it sounds like complete crap otherwise.
urbex
Yeah good luck getting a shop to get rid of the CAT. I had a hell of a time just getting mufflers put on my truck because the CAT was already gone....
