dodgethis
Mine doesn't, what kind of car are we refering to?
redynscire
the car is a 95 monte carlo with complete 99' monte carlo wiring harness swapped in. everything but the fuel gauge and the DRL's work fine
carkhz316
No. Not ever. Are you sure you don't just have the highbeams on; since it uses both DRLs and HLs. (runs the highbeams in series/ 6V while in DRL mode).
redynscire
alright... i get in the car. put my key in the ignition. (headlight switch is off) turn the key on,.. DRL come on, but so does the dash lights, parking lights.. if i turn the parking lights on (at the switch) there is no change (like they were already on...) turn the the headlights on and the DRL's go out, headlights come on. highs / lows / DRL's all seem to work but the DRL's seem alittle bright for 6 volts??? carkhz316
This may seem obvious but make sure that nothing is covering up the light sensor in the dash. If it is unobstructed it may be defective.

Z34guy
of course. DRL's became standard in 1996.

In the daytime, they will be off... That is what the "eye" on the dashboard does, tell the lights if it is dark out to come on...
redynscire
cool. finally figured this out tonight. makes me wonder....what is the point of the headlight switch then??
BXX
cool. finally figured this out tonight.makes me wonder....what is the point of the headlight switch then?? Manually turn the HL/TLs on.. In Ohio, your headlights and taillights have to be on before the DRL will actually kick them on.

88red4cyl
?? He's saying that you are legally supposed to have them turned on before it's dark enough for the DRL system to turn them on automatically.. In Missouri you are supposed to have your lights on if its raining as well, so most of the time it isn't dark enough to trigger the autolamps, so you may have to manually turn them on as well in this case..
