Weclome aboard! What year DOHC?

I can give you the quick update on what's going on here:

* Ram Air = custom job done by yourself you your buddies

* Exhaust = local muffler shop; use mandrel bent pipe & not recommend to exceed 2.5" diameter

* Chip (1991 - 1993 only) = Fast Forward Performance has user setting to get the most out of your motor.

Also, if the motor is out consider the following:

* performance advanced / retard timing of intake / exhaust valves

* port + polishing of intake and heads

* increased throttle body diameter

* 3- or 5-angle job on intake / exhaust ports

There are tons of old posts about this.

If you know of a specific component you'll want optimized, highly recommend searching for it.

Pretty much anything and everything has been discussed here.

Best of luck, and hope you get some serious power out of your new LQ1.

serious power and and LQ1? thats an oxymoron

No, thats not an oxymoron. Some guys on here are puttin some pretty good power to an LQ1. I think around 275 n/a is attainable

i'm hopin to put down 300 hp at the crank with my new motor n/a. high compression, headers, 96 intakes, and a port and polish job on the whole thing. i don't see why its not possible

Hey Robby, why you gotta be like that? Anyway, I just don't believe the LQ1 is worth it. Reasons being its not as reliable as a 90 degree v6, no aftermarket, harder to work on, and you can get twice the amount of power from the L67 or even the L36 compared to the LQ1

Twice the power from the NA 3800? Stop smokin crack. Turboed DOHC with less money in it could rival the top 3800. Its easy to work on and some DOHC owners perfer working on them over even a 3.1. Aftermarket is pickin up but if you don't care about them you wont know where to look anyway.

NA 3800..god that put a smile on my face for the first time today.

Well umm I've done work on all the GM motors, and I personally like the DOHC. Seeing as how I've had the motor stripped of everything to the bare block, I can tell you it IS a motor well capable of 300+hp. You just have to find the right combination. I've spent well over $3000 on my DOHC, and its not just how much you do to it, its HOW you do it, and finding what works best. If you want some info on my 3.1 to 3.4 swap and what performance stuff I did, let me know. I will be updating my website shortly. Good to hear SOMEONE out there still likes this motor :-). Welcome aboard!

I'm hoping to eventually swap in a DOHC in place of my 3.1. I'm gunna rebuild whatever I get and hopefully work it to 275-300hp after exhaust, chip, and CAI. Hopefully within the next few years that is lol
