Penglii
I am getting ready to do a LIM job on my '94 Sedan and I have the Dorman Gasket Set #615-206. I can identify most of the included seals... the LIM gaskets, the VC Gaskets, the UIM Gaskets, the LIM Bolts, and the EGR Gasket. There are 2 paper gaskets and 3 O-rings that I cannot identify... What are they for? I have attached a picture for reference.
alec_b
The larger paper gasket is another EGR gasket. One of the o-rings is for the oil pump drive. The other three ???
Penglii
OK...some googling says that the 3 paper gaskets are (left to right) 94-95 EGR, 96-99 EGR and 00-05 EGR. From a inventory simplicity standpoint I suppose it makes sense for that additional seals pack to cover all the 3x00 styles. The large O-ring does match the brown-style oil pump drive ring I got... I wonder what material dorman makes theirs out of. I'll be using the brown one just to be safe. So that leaves the other 2 O-rings. Fuel rail seals? BXX
No, thermostat seal and the water pump outlet tube seal. BTW with that kit, you will still need the 94 UIM gaskets. They should be like 10 bucks at a parts store. The ones in that Dorman kit are for largeport UIM.
RobertISaar
problem solved: grab large port UIM!
BXX
You need large port LIM to match... Now would be a great time for a largeport top swap:thumbsup:
Penglii
No, thermostat seal and the water pump outlet tube seal. Awesome. BTW with that kit, you will still need the 94 UIM gaskets. They should be like 10 bucks at a parts store. The ones in that Dorman kit are for largeport UIM. So... they sell a kit with the LIM gaskets for the stamped rockers... but give the large port UIM gaskets? What up with that? Now would be a great time for a largeport top swap:thumbsup: LOL If I somehow manage to acquire a largeport top to swap between now and the 1st weekend in June... otherwise it's a straight LIM job this time round. Penglii
So... there is a thread on 60V6 where someone is claiming that the dorman 615-206 LIM gaskets have ports that are 1/4" too big and are therefore useless for the Ball & Stud Rocker L82 3100's the kit is sold for.... (http://60degreev6.com/forum/showthread.php/48651-1994-3.1-Oldsmobile-LIM-question) Can anyone confirm or deny this claim? I cannot imagine that Dorman would sell a LIM gasket set that does not work at all... I'm doing my LIM gaskets this weekend and have this kit and really do not want to be caught with the engine apart and the wrong gasket... Penglii
I really need to work on not being so paranoid... for reference, here is a very good PDF regarding 3100 LIM gaskets. http://www.fme-cat.com/Docs/1430.pdf
