badprix Posted October 13, 2003 Report Posted October 13, 2003 Will the heads from a 3100 bolt right up on a 3.1? Or will I have to do some modifications? And what year should I ask for when I order the heads from the parts store? Thanks, guys. Quote
Vegeta Posted October 13, 2003 Report Posted October 13, 2003 you will need the intake manifolds, fuel rail, exhaust manifolds, power steering pump resevoir, and to modify a few things. Its not a simple swap but it has been done and its well worth it. Quote
MaroonRegal Posted October 13, 2003 Report Posted October 13, 2003 I think you should ask for the newest ones, if they'll work. The newer 3100 has a higher output. Quote
Vegeta Posted October 13, 2003 Report Posted October 13, 2003 the 2000+ 3100s use the same heads as the 3400s from 96+. They have a 1.76" intake valve vs the 1.72" of the 3.1 and earlier 3100s. The intakes are the larger 3400 type after 99 as well for the 3100s. You would need to modify something to fit the EGR on any of the larger intake styles though, as the 94-95 3100s are the only ones to match up to your EGR. There is an adapter plate for using 96-99 3400 plenums though. Quote
Guest Anonymous Posted October 13, 2003 Report Posted October 13, 2003 I have what you need from a 94 Cutlass. It's for sale. The only part I don't have is the power steering pump as the one off the car was completely shot. PM me if interested. We can work out a price. heads (have been pressure and vacuum tested, had one valve not seating, FIXED. they have also been resurfaced) upper intake lower intake water neck exhaust manifolds crossover egr valve throttle body air box fuel rail/injectors injector wiring harness valve covers valve cover gaskets new pcv valve various hoses all bolts Quote
badprix Posted October 15, 2003 Author Report Posted October 15, 2003 I was hoping this would be a little easier but I guess not...if I purchase brand new heads will they need to be resurfaced or anything? Quote
Vegeta Posted October 15, 2003 Report Posted October 15, 2003 I hope you are getting them for a steal cause GM will bend you over hardcore on a brand new set. They wouldn't need to be touched other than any port work you may want. Quote
badprix Posted October 17, 2003 Author Report Posted October 17, 2003 Advanced auto parts said $174 a piece for 3.1 heads. I don't know if thats from GM or advanced's supplier. Yea I'm going to get bent over backwards. Thanks Ben. Quote
fast68 Posted October 24, 2003 Report Posted October 24, 2003 174 is way lower for a set of heads than what GM would want, i didnt know that that store sold new heads ? interesting. looked it up and 93 3.1L heads are 199 each: http://www.partsamerica.com/SelectParts.asp?PartType=246&PTSet=B&SearchFor=Cylinder%20Head Quote
skalor Posted October 24, 2003 Report Posted October 24, 2003 A lot of the earlier('94-'95) 3100 powered cars are starting to show up in boneyards. I got a set of 3100 heads for $50 from a yard near me 8) Quote
