Decatur 31
Has anyone had contact with Flex Form lately? I have tried to call them twice and just get a answering machine. It doesn't even answer with the company name. One other question. Is the Birchmount Leaf a metal spring? Thanks Jerry
Decatur 31
Right after I posted the pervious thread Mark from Flex Form called. Said he was still in business. Right now he can make a monoleaf with a 2 inch drop for $320 plus a small shipping charge. He said some of the shipping charge is built into the price. Also he could not guarantee it would be exact but pretty close. He's done about a half dozen since he took over the company 3 years ago. Any comments on his work? Thanks
Andrew
IMO, you are better off getting a steel leaf from Birchmount. FAF is fiberglass and can crack, and it sounds like customer service is severely lacking.
BXX
You can do coilovers for aboot that cost... Plus you can choose whatever spring rate you want, from uber soft to uber firm and everything in between:thumbsup: Use Stock Mounts - $0 Spring Isolators - $25 2 Springs - $90 2 Sleeves - $35 2 Adj Nuts - $35 2 KYB Struts - $90 -------------------------------- $275 roughtly And youll have all the ride height adjustment you ever need I make coilover mounts that would be better than using the stock, and they come with spring isolators, sooo Coilover Mounts w/ Isolators - $200 2 Sleeves - $35 2 Adj Nuts - $35 2 Springs - $90 2 KYB Struts- $90 --------------------------------- $450 Just some other options for ya.. AliasCT
I've heard that converting to coilovers can make the ride really harsh (since the car wasn't made for coilovers). Any comments on that? Can the car still be a DD?
Andrew
The ride can be harsh if you choose too stiff of springs. Dont make that mistake. Of course you can still DD it. I would recommend a rear strut tower brace as well if you go coilover.
CSI_MuNkY
The car not being designed for it has nothing to do with the harshness... The front already has a "coil over" design, and the rear strut towers are made out of the exact same material as the fronts. In the front you have the towers bearing the weight of LQ1's, not to mention all the weight transferring forwards under heavy braking. If you don't want harsh, keep your spring rates low, like 250lb in the back and maybe 275-300 in the front
mfewtrail
Just posting to let you know I merged your two threads about the flex-a-form spring/info. Next time, please update the original thread by posting another reply to it instead of starting another thread about the same product, issue, or whatever. You can even edit the thread title if needed. See this thread about how to edit the thread title: http://www.w-body.com/showthread.php/46678-Editing-thread-titles Here's an old flex-a-form thread that you may or may not have found already: http://www.w-body.com/showthread.php/9889-Flex-A-Form-Rear-Spring-install-and-disappointment-%287-pics%29?highlight=leaf+spring

FAF is fiberglass and can crack, and it sounds like customer service is severely lacking. Its not a mater of if, but when. Mine cracked. I have a picture of it somewhere. Birchmount or coilovers. Those really should be your only two options.
Decatur 31
Thanks everyone for your input. I am looking for a 2" drop all around, 18" rims, paint and interior. Why spend so much money on a 95? I guess we all need a hobbie.

Decatur 31
In reference to your price on the coilovers with the mounts and isolaters I do like the price. At the risk of asking stupid questions, would these be ready to install? I would just pull the old ones out and replace them with yours. Correct? Also I was told by a fiend of mine to get the rims and tires first then lower the car. The problem looks to me like the 18" rims and 45 series tires would rub against the stock strut housing. Anyway you seem like a pretty knowledgable person about this stuff and I would like your feedback. Jerry

How wide of a tire do you want to run? Don't forget, you will need an alignment afterward.
Decatur 31
:)I guess that is something else I'll have to look into. There are (I would guess) only about 6 other W body Cutlass in this town (Bakersfield,Ca) I saw one with what looks like 18" rims. I would like to talk with him. I know where his (or her) apartment building is but if I go around and start asking which number they live in well that just may create a problem. Anyway thanks for your answer I'll just keep researching. Jerry

Decatur 31
Andrew W: Thank you very much for the reference. It really helped me out. I was just really concerned about that front strut rubbing. This is going to cost a fortune but it will be worth it. Jerry:)
BXX
The coilover mounts I make and sell would replace your entire stock strut mount. Bolt it, align, and go. And the tire sizing calculator that Andrew posted a link to is the same one I used to determine a size that will fit on my 92 Vert. I ended up with a 19x8.5" rim and a 245/35/19 tire and have ZERO rubbing issues:thumbsup:
