joecutlass Posted April 28, 2011 Report Posted April 28, 2011 whats a better brand to run for trailing arms? im seeing dorman parts, moog or a company called rare parts... does anyone on this forum make them? cause if someone does, id be more than willing to buy from someone here who could benefit from making a sale rather than going to an auto parts store. (given that there is a proven benefit to purchasing these arms) Quote
BXX Posted April 28, 2011 Report Posted April 28, 2011 I make some that arent stock style. More performance oriented using DOM tube steel and heim joints. Im working on ones with poly bushings and DOM tube steel. Unfortunately they arent exactly cheap compared to stock replacements. As far as aftermarket OE style replacements, they are aboot all the same except the Dorman is a square tube style that is less prone to bending. Its the same style as the Impala/MC SS cars and some 9C1 cop cars. Its still kinda weak though but much better than stock. Quote
joecutlass Posted April 28, 2011 Author Report Posted April 28, 2011 so should i get the dormans or wait on what you make? Quote
94 olds vert Posted April 28, 2011 Report Posted April 28, 2011 I have the dorman ones. They aren't bad, but whatever BXX makes will be heavenly compared to the dorman ones. Quote
BXX Posted April 28, 2011 Report Posted April 28, 2011 Here's a pic of the trailing arms I currently make. These have heim joints for uber smooth and the most positive suspension movement, but more road noise will be heard inherent of the design. I also make adjustable lateral arms for the rear suspension too. Heres the full rear suspension set that Mach 5 bought off me and recently recieved. I have material on order right now to start on rear trailing arms and lateral arms with poly bushings. They will have less road noise, but wont be the most responsive. These would be something you would probably want over the heim joints. Dorman would be a stock upgrade, my poly tubular arms would be a street/strip performance upgrade, and the heimjoint style would be a hardcore street/track upgrade. Quote
BXX Posted April 28, 2011 Report Posted April 28, 2011 In the end it depends on how much you want to spend and what your looking to get outta the car performance wise. I also make custom coilover mounts as well. These are the fronts, havent been able to drop the rears off with my welder yet. Unwelded rears... Quote
joecutlass Posted April 28, 2011 Author Report Posted April 28, 2011 Pm me some numbers. This way I can figure out how long it'll take me to save up. I'm sure my girlfriend hates me right now. I've been working on this car more than her. Quote
iroc2 Posted April 28, 2011 Report Posted April 28, 2011 im also interested in your suspension parts, pmed Quote

White93z34 Posted April 28, 2011 Report Posted April 28, 2011 With little exception I've had great experience with rock auto. Quote
Penglii Posted April 29, 2011 Report Posted April 29, 2011 With little exception I've had great experience with rock auto. Cheap prices, quick shipping, free fridge magnet with every order, and their home office is like a mile from where I went to high school. They are made of win, well worth a second chance. Quote
AL Posted April 30, 2011 Report Posted April 30, 2011 I have never had a bad experience with them Quote
Crazy K Posted April 30, 2011 Report Posted April 30, 2011 I had two orders with a total of 5 wrong things.... one order had three: wrong part in box, misread number, and a poor description resulted in me getting a oulet gasket which was actually a thermostat seal. the other resulted in me getting two thermostats that were wrong in box. Rockauto immediately corrected the issues with a call to customer support. i have continued to use them satisfactorily Quote
BXX Posted April 30, 2011 Report Posted April 30, 2011 I just placed 2 orders with them, some stuff for me, and a mirror for my coworker's Sonata. Im sure it will be painless as it always has been in the past Quote
joecutlass Posted May 1, 2011 Author Report Posted May 1, 2011 Ok. So I've been convinced. Ill order from rockauto again. We'll see how this goes. I'm trying to get my gp straightened out as well as I can before the autox event my buddys go to. I haven't ran there yet and they don't mind letting anyone run, someone ran a stock aveo last year. BXX- I sent you anotyher pm the other day. Let me know what you think. Quote
