AliasCT
Hey all, I'm having an interesting problem... Started my 93 GP (3.1L) one morning, ran for a minute, then died. Cranked all day but wouldn't fire up. Pulled a spark plug and noticed no spark. After a brief internet search, checked the DIS underhood fuse, which was blown. Replaced the fuse, but *every time* I hit the starter, that fuse blows. Anyone have any experience with this? I've been thinking about buying a replacement ICM. I was following the diagnostics guide at http://easyautodiagnostics.com/ignition_gm/ign_module_test_2.php and was going to check the ground on the 5 wire connector, just to check everything, and noticed something weird; *every* wire has ground. Took a multimeter, put the red lead on 12v, and when touching the black lead to any wire in that connector, the multimeter shows ~12v. Is that normal!? Psych0matt
I would clean up all of the terminals on the ECM first, just to make sure. But it sounds like something is grounding out somewhere...
AliasCT
I'm grabbing a spare ICM from the J/Y in a couple of days, I guess in the mean-time I'll be tracing wires. The five wire connector disappears into the wire loom, Should be fun to track it all down...
AliasCT
Just wanted to post my results up here. I traced all of the wiring and I didn't see any broken or fraying wires. I assumed that if it was in an intact wiring loom that it was ok... Anyway, pulled a J/Y ICM, threw it onto my car this morning, and the damn thing fired up! So FYI, a popping DIS fuse can be caused by a dead ICM... Will be ordering a *new* one from RockAuto in the near future. Don't want to get stranded when this one dies! Crazy K
BEST IDEA: get one from a 3100/3400 from up top at the back of the motor. they don't get heat soak damaged, and coils and ICM are the same as used on your motor.
AliasCT
Ken, your idea = FTMFW. I've already got a *new* one order, so I'll just pop it in. Already replaced a coil about 6 months ago, so at this point its all about new lol. Is it possible to get my 3.1 setup to match a 3100? ie Is there a mount that I can snag from a 3100, or does it mount right to the intake plenum...?
