topless94style
I know this was talked about awhile back on how they add a good amount of weight when turning or something like that. Anyway, is it possible to find 17 or 18 inch rims for our cars that weigh less than what we have to have better use of the power?
Redfox340
Yeah, but you'll pay a premium price for strong alloy metals. Bigger wheels need more force to turn since at the same speed the weight is farther away from the center of the wheel. Ah... physics... the joys of being an engineer. phantomFE3
so what if we all had 13 inch rims an low profile tires?
topless94style
So basically, if i find lighter rims that are bigger i am still going to loose tq? My reasoning for bigger rims so i can get lower profile tires for better handling. Im not too big on the looks because i want the car to look inside and out original stock. But, if i can get bigger rims that will alow lower profile tires and be lighter to get more use of my power then im all for it. I guess i could get lower profile on my stock 16's but that wouldnt look too good would it?
timbit_69
topless... here is some info for you about wheel size and weight... it is from another Auto club for imports but it sholuld do... http://londonautoclub.org/html/tech_info/wheelweight.htm
PaPaPooh
so what if we all had 13 inch rims an low profile tires? you will gain some torque as in to the wheels takes less torque to tuen the smaller wheels so you will move from a stop quicker than stock or over sized So basically, if i find lighter rims that are bigger i am still going to loose tq? topless94style
So if i got say 17" rims, with lowprofile tires, and the height of the new rims and my old ones where the same, and the weight close to the same, would this change anything power wise? PaPaPooh
your power wont change per say it will feel like there is less just that it takes away to get them moving but yes if you have 15" wheels with a 3 inch tire and you go with 17"wheels and go with 2 inch tires there will be no change because they both equal 21" dia
