Where do you hook up an aftaermarket Tach on a 1989 Supreme LS 2.8?

I have a rare 1989 Cutlass Supreme with a special order 5 Speed Getrag. (normally came with Automatic as standard equip). The 5 speed manual was standard on the International but it has a Tach in its "digital dash" but the LS has only a Speedometer and Odometer. I have never driven a 5 dpeed without a tach so bought an Auto Meter Model 2300 which I will mount on the steering column. However, since the 2.8 has no distributor, Auto Meter seems to think that there is some place you can hook it to (like the coils). They also sell an adapter for another $80.

I would appreciate hearing from anyone who has put in an aftermarket analog tach.

Thanks,

Do you have a Driver Information System? (DIS)

If not, there is a tach on that and it would be very easy to install.

The tach wire is white. The easiest place to grab it is off of the gauge cluster harness.

ABORT! ABORT! ABORT!

You have asked the wrong question. Proper question is: HOW DO I CONVERT TO A UB3 DIGITAL CLUSTER???

The Ub3 digital cluster is the full gauge (tach, oil, volt, temp) cluster that your car could have come with, but bastard GM apparently failed to do...

If you decide to pursue this I have the wiring info for the UB3 conversion upon request.
